i know there are alot of guitar players who frequent the off topic zone such as brainpaint, qwickdraw, dan, etc. etc.

here is a video you might enjoy....

his name is uli roth who used to be the lead guitarist of the scorpions back in the early to mid 70's.

this is a guitar solo that i think is amazing.

very talented guitar player.

Wowza. Thanks Lane. He's one of those guys who is technically great but leaves me wanting to hear a melody somewhere along the line.

I'll still cast my lot with Satriani who can play his hiney off but still keeps melod in mind.

I have always felt Uli was a great guitarist and very underated over the years.

He has never been my cup of tea but there is NO doubting his talent.

Will also say that Michael Shenkner is also a very talented guitarist that also played for the scorpions. Later, and the one most people know, his brother Rudolph played with the scorps. However I always felt Michael was the most talented of the brothers.

I´m sure all those guys have talent but that type of playing strikes me as more athletic than musical. Very few things can move me like a David Gilmour guitar solo or a Jimi Hendrix fill. However, most of my favourite guitarists, with the exception of Gilmour and Hendrix, are usually reticent soloists: Pete Townshend (he does solo, but he´s a rhythm guitarist by trade), Keith Richards (see Townshend comment), Stone Gossard, Jack White, Andy Summers (can solo with the best of them, but usually favours textured arpeggios.)

One guitar player who I imagine very few of you know but who I think is incredible is Martin Tielli of The Rheostatics (an excellent Canadian band.) The guy coaxes some incredible sounds out of his guitar.

Always been a huge fan of UJR. Some people don't realize that Roth's heavy distortion (for the times) with the use of the whammy bar was actually the main influence for Eddie Van Halen in the early-mid 70s.

Maybe it was just me, but I wasn't too huge a fan of his solo stuff with "Rising Sun" (or was it "electric sun"???) in the mid-80s.

As a Scorpions fan I like Uli Roth, but I enjoyed their music much more when Mathias Jabs came along...

Having Rudy Schenker on rhythm ain't half bad either... ;)

Agreed on both accounts.

It just fit the band better.

Great way to state it.

Hendrix. Technically wasn't the greatest....but he played melodies...
