Umpire ejects entire crowd during baseball game

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa - An umpire emptied the stands at a high school baseball game, ejecting the entire crowd of more than 100 fans for being unruly.

Umpire Don Briggs said he had no problem with any of the student athletes during Thursday's game between Winfield-Mount Union and West Burlington.

He said he had to take action because fans were being unruly, yelling and arguing.

However, West Burlington Superintendent James Sleister said he didn't see any unusual behavior and said he thought the umpire overreacted.

The game resumed after a 40-minute delay. West Burlington won 12-11.

The umpire called police as a precaution. West Burlington police did not immediately respond today to a call seeking comment.

I have a personal story like this.

The team I was playing for during my American legion days, well we got into a brawl with a rival team and the parents got involved and the next thing I know, everyone was ejected and both teams got a loss.

Its a funny memory.

the kid playing third base for the other team had a mullet, and some guys on my team were calling him axel, and he got super ticked and finally in the 5th inning threw his glove down and charged my dugout!!!

I used to coach Little League locally. One time there was an adult game on the adjoining field. An Umpire got into a shouting match with a very vulgar woman who was in the stands. Her husband came in from the outfield and threatened the Umpire. The next thing I knew the Umpire tossed the guy and it went nuts. Fighting in the stands, on the field. The other team trying to protect the Umps. I didn't know whether to leave our game and try and help or what. Our game stopped. The other team's coaches and ours agreed to gather our kids together at home plate and talk to them about it. It ended up being very positive. I thought it was going to end up with serious injuries when it first got going.

i played in a 4 team softball league in east texas.
players from the 2 teams not playing umpired the game being played.
one night our game was umped by 2 players from the same team.
the home plate ump overruled a call made by the field ump.
the 2 teammate/umps ended up in a fight right on the pitchers mound.
