Something has to be done about this, especially in the redzone. WR's running rub routes right past a fat, non athletic geriatric in stripes shouldn't be part of the game.

it really wouldn't be hard to have a camera with a zoom function on it for when in the middle of the field. As far as the redzone goes, they already have a ref on the back endzone line, stick two back there, but the endzone/redzone is just too tight to stick a ref in there.

Esp inside the 5. They are bound and determined to make themselves part of the game. Just stand on the end line you puts. God I hate these clowns.

We should just have no refs on the field and let them judge the games from Microsoft surfaces, they can send push notifications to the score board when they throw a flag

All kidding aside, I'm surprised we aren't already there. There really is no point to still having refs on the field anymore. Everything is seen from much better angles and by more people in the video feeds. If there are penalties they can be called in and go from there.

Yeah just have Max Headroom come up on the video screen with the penalty call.

lol I was thinking there would still be refs there to announce the penalty and to deal directly with players.

and we would see more flags than ever. If technically holding can be called on any play why would the technology not catch it? Even with technology we do have it is not always clear and that is why they do go back to the ruling on the field when replay can’t definitively show a enough in some cases. There are a lot of plays that will go to replay that stay as called on the field, more than those that actually get over turned.

I'm not saying there wouldn't have to be some changes made or even that it should happen right now. I'm just surprised it hasn't.

This is a good point and I think teams will exploit this even more next year. It's a virtual get out of jail for free pick play that's impossible le to defend. Until they do something - I hope it's in our playbook.

We need refs on the field, if nothing else , so they can feel the pressure of the fans and players when they make calls.

Obviously bringing up calling penalties on the jumbotron is being hyperbolic and taking away from what could be a good discussion...

We can all agree that refs standing in the endzone when near the goal line is a joke.

I don't expect it will in any of the sports. I do think as technology continue to grow that refs will be given more help through technology. Frankly I would not want their jobs, seldom will you hear people say anything good about them but they get it right more times than not. There are many bang bang plays taking place that I have doubts about in a game and then when I see replay confirm it the vast majority of the time I'm amazed. There are a lot of great calls made that people ignore.

The referee's just have to make the guys position not predictable, so as a team can run a pik route off of him.........the risk is his angle on observing the play, but that is always part of the game.

Also the ability to run a " legal pick" off our your own teammate as defined by todays standards may be something that's looked at.

Here's Carroll quote about the game ending route. Notice he uses the word " shielded" instead of pick

"Really the way the route generally works is the back receiver gets shielded off so that the play can get thrown to the guy trailing," Carroll said, "And it's worked really well, it's been a really nice concept."
