Unapologetic and maybe even reckless prognostication: McCarthy will get extra creative this year

First six games: We will discover that it was in the closed practices that McCarthy installed a myriad of plays designed around Luepke as a new special weapon that hearkens back to McC's GB days and his FBs.

After the off-week: We will discover that McCarthy installed another wrinkle for the opposition to deal with... a new base formation that is run-first, but out of which, other pre-snap formations will be accommodated for as long as the team isn't attempting to operate at a higher pace... challenging opposing defenses to have to think about and possibly readjust their own calls rapidly, something like would have been considered conventional Tom Landry philosophy back in the day.

After Thanksgiving: We will discover that the final special weapon will be deployed... Trey Lance. And it will be the talk of the end of the year how McCarthy took a cue from Sean Payton's ingenuity with Taysom Hill and did some things even more impressive than any of that.

Why not all of it at once? Because McC has undeniably a good sense for how long a season is, and how it's so beneficial to have some new something to roll-out periodically that the other side has to account for.

What in the world have you seen in the 4 previous years that would give you any hope that McCarthy is creative? McCarthy is going to do what Jerry tells him to do because he wants a new contract and he can't get a new contract if he bucks the boss.

They had to dumb down the offense for Dak in the off-season and had to make changes after the bye to force feed Lamb.

They also said they didn’t want to operate at a high pace and run the ball, but had to scrap that and run at a higher pace, because Dak can’t dissect a defense.

Well, first, @Cowboy4ever let's at least attempt some objectivity. McC was criticized last season because he made adjustments during the break that worked... and people were saying, "why didn't you implement that before now?" (I see that @khiladi alludes to it, albeit in the Eeyore-ish way that is typical of the cynics gathered here. :) ) I can pull up those receipts, but I'm too lazy, and it's Labor Day so I'm especially selfish with my time. But they're there, thanks to Google et al.

Second, even if we set that aside, I concur with the belief that when you're in your final year of a contract, that's going to have significance. And the least "reckless" thing about my prognostication here is to presume that McCarthy will feel great latitude to be as creative as he ever thought about being.

MM is well known for not being a good Xs and Os coach. He doesn’t have much creativity at all. So I’ll go ahead and say that this isn’t going to happen

Um. Yeah. Um. So. What is he "well known for being" then? A motivational speaker???

Dang, man. The offense was in several measures top tier if not the best in the league last season... and he only even has a job today because he's always been considered to be a good Xs and Os coach. There's never been anything else to attribute to the success he's had. Come back to earth.

I should add... being a good strategist doesn't always mean being creative, as the comment seems to assume. To some degree, it's necessary, but one can be too creative for his own strategy's good.

Another fan myth.
And actually this is the 2nd year of MM's offense. Before he was stuck with Moore and the out dated Garrett offense.
They made 30% changes last year. And probably even more this year, though we have not heard anything about it. Nor should we hear anything g about it.

The closed to the media practices, is where they installed the things not previous shown.

Three 12-5 seasons, and 3 straight playoff appearances. winning the NFCE 2 of those 3, and close to 3 times.
Top offenses in those years as well.
But yet he is known for not being a good OC / play calling.

Lame duck coaches tend to do that. They have nothing to lose. Good luck to him, if he wins, we win.

You just threw out a bunch of stars for when he wasn’t even OC except one year, last year. So yeah, you have proven my point. Thanks. My job is done here

I proved nothing for you. He was still the HC, so he was still responsible. And his offense looked better than the previous goofballs.

Agreed we're the most boring high profile team in the league

McCarthy getting an extension will be based on one thing. Playoff wins.
Nothing else.
The Cowboys could have the 28th ranked offense as long as they make the playoffs and find a way to outscore teams in the WC and Divisional rounds. Do that......McCarthy will be back.

Somebody else packaging what they WISH would happen, as a prediction (i.e. something that a logical person THINKS will happen)

You have me psyched up for the new season. I want to see this creativity from MM to shine through. I believe Cowboys fans underappreciate him.

So why was he stuck with Moore and the out dated Garrett offense?

Because Jerry said so, that's why.

And again, if Jerry tells him to roll out Lance game 1, guess who will be the QB game 1, Lance. If Jerry tells him to run 8 gimmick plays a game, he will run 8 gimmick plays a game. McCarthy is coaching for one thing, his next contract. He will do whatever Jerry tells him to do, just like he has done since he got here.

It's not like we don't have years of film to look at for his creative Offensives, go look at GB and come tell me how creative he was when he could do whatever he wanted.

I do hope Jerry told him to have some packages for Lance, it would be fun to see the kid in live action.

You’re all over the place. First you blame MM for not being creative and then when you got schooled on that, you pivot to Jerrry.
