no limit on how much a team can spend on given players, i dont know the exact number of the cap now but its up there. So think pre-i-think-it-was-95 when the salery cap hit the nfl.

New York Yankees, [/explanation]

Nah, not really gonna happen. There's a lot of stipulations in case things went uncapped.

Adam would know more than I would but I'm pretty sure that Rookie contracts extend an additional year, thereby reducing the FA pool.

Also, the playoff teams would have restrictions on being able to make moves. Pretty sure its like 1:1. They would have to lose a player in FA in order to gain a player in FA.

Could be wrong but I thought I remember those from previous threads. I know Hos posted a thread a while back breaking it down pretty well.

If it goes to an uncapped year, then there is also no salary floor. Meaning every team can spend exactly how much they want.
rookie contracts would extend a year, so for example, Jason Campbell would be an unrestricted FA this year with a cap, but if no cap is in place, then he becomes a restricted free agent.

teams will be given an extra franchise (transition) tag.

the top eight teams can only sign a FA at a 1:1 pace, meaning that if they sign a FA they have to let another player (i think equivalent contract) go.

Players will be able to moved without salary cap implications, meaning high paid players could be cut and no penalty would be assessed.

The intent was to make a capless year something neither side wanted to happen, so player movement is extremely restricted which affects the union, and obviously high salaries affect the owners.

They have until March 1st to sign a new agreement or the next year will be uncapped.

That is my best understanding of it.

So if you were to cut a vet would that count toward losing a player that would allow us to gain a player via FA

if for no other reason that teams can get rid of the Jamarcus Russells and Ken Hamlins of the world without impact, than that alone is a good reason for an uncapped year...I am tired of these duds who play like wildfire the year they have a contract up, sign for megabucks with another team and than go to sleep on you ala Shawn Alexander

Lets say next year is uncapped. What changes do you guys want to see happen? I would like to see Adams and Hamlin both cut. Free could be moved to LT and Dallas could draft a T and FS in rounds 1 and 2. I would then like to see Marion Barber traded to the highest bidder as I don't think this RB by commitee is working. Choice needs to start with Jones splitting time. Lastly if Newman continues to get burned I would like to see him get traded as well. If he is going to continue to be a liability might as well see what Scandrick can do. You can get average production from Scandrick at a fraction of the cost.

If you really want Tony dead move free to LT. He is good at RT so far but LT is a whole other story.
