The deadline for underclassmen to declare is eleven days away and official announcements have been fast and furious this week. Here’s the latest on what we’re hearing.
As I inferred for the past month Garett Bolles of Utah publically announced he’s entering the draft. Bolles has the potential to be a big riser over the next four months. Several people I’ve spoken with the past few weeks tell me they project him as a top 20 choice and a few mentioned they feel he’s the best left tackle in this draft. In our first mock draft released yesterday we had Bolles selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 14th pick.
Bolles Ute teammate Lowell Lotulelei won’t be joining him and intends on returning to Utah for his senior campaign. The big defensive tackle missed time last season with a shoulder injury. Moving towards the 2018 draft Lotulelei will carry a first round grade.
Sources out west tell me it may be a little while before Adoree' Jackson publically announces his intentions on entering the draft, the aftereffects of the injury suffered during the Rose Bowl.
On New Year’s eve I reported USC was putting in all out blitz to keep their juniors in the program, pushing especially hard for JuJu Smith-Schuster. During that report I mentioned the promise of a loss of value insurance policy to the big receiver. Just a short time ago I was told the school gave the go ahead for the policy on Smith-Schuster. Sources told me they honestly don’t know whether this means Smith-Schuster will definitely return for his senior season or its just a way for the school to follow through on its promise. Update 3:05PM EST: While the school presses forward in an attempt to keep Smith-Schuster those close to the program tell me they feel its an uphill battle and he will enter the draft. Word I heard just a bit ago is he'll likely sign with Roc Nation Sports.
The family of Chris Godwin has been seeking multiple opinions on whether or not the Penn State receiver should enter the draft. Most believe Godwin will enter the draft due to the talent at the position. We presently grade him as a third rounder.
Out in Wyoming people tell me quarterback Josh Allen is leaning towards returning for another season, which most believe is his best option. That may change and Allen could jump into the draft if Mitch Trubisky of North Carolina opts to return to school for his senior campaign.
