Understand Miami is $40M under the cap

Maybe that explains why they played so poorly last season. Actually I don't think their defense was so bad, but their offense mostly stunk up the place cause they really didn't have any quality players on it. But that's beside the point. Supposedly the Miami Herald is hyping Flozel and expects/hopes he will sign with them. Now I understand this is the livelihood for NFL players so they expect to be paid and will follow the money. We'd all do the same thing in the same situation when it comes to our job.

But some players at Flozel's age take less to go to NE cause they really want a shot at the SB. Obviously a SB shot in Dallas is real possibility but certainly won't happen in Miami in Flozel's lifetime. Wonder how it would feel to play for the Cowboys as our starting LT for 10 years & then leave his home/friends/teammates at almost 33 to go play for a losing team. But of course he was used to playing for a losing team in Dallas for many years so that's not a problem. Wonder how much Miami will offer him. We probably will be shocked with the amount. I'd like to see him stay with the Cowboys but worry he could become another Riveria.

One more thing. I was watching a replay of the Cowboys game against Tampa on Thanksgiving Day in 06. Announcers mentioned that the Cowboy OL had given up 16 sacks during the 4-1/2 games Bledsoe was the QB but only 5-1/2 sacks in the 5 games Romo was the QB. Now our OL certainly played well this season -- for the most part most notably not against the Giants in playoff game but do wonder how much Romo's quick release (timed by NFL Network as 2.46 secs which is quickest release ever in the NFL including better then Marino's 3.0 release) and his ability to move around/outside the pocket contributed to that OL improvement. On the other hand, Romo's movement in the pocket also forced the OL to hold their blocks longer to buy time. Just wonder if Miami's QB, whoever that may be, has a QB with average release & doesn't have quick feet, how well Adams will play. However Adams plays for them, if he does sign a contract, they better hope he does well the length of the contract cause they will be married to him.

I think think that JJ will offer Flo a fair contract.

That said, Flo may want to get as much as he can in FA.

And frankly said, if Flo would rather play for a losing organization than having a shot at a Super Bowl with Dallas, that's his choice, but is a a couple extra million going to make that big a difference in Flo's life? I guessing that Flo has made a lot of money in his career. He wasn't a fringe player.

As an example, Z Thomas has made about $50mm playing football, according to his agent. Thomas wants to play for a winner first and foremost. He wants to have at least one shot at post-season success before his football days are over.

I really respect that.

Thomas realizes an extra $1-2mm isn't really going to change his lifestyle, but maybe he can get a Super Bowl ring if he plays for a winning franchise.

But anyway, to each his own.

I'm not worried about losing Flo. I'd hate to lose him, but if we do we have 2 first round picks to address LT, plus we have options in house. The reality is that in the salary cap era you're sometimes going ot lose good players, especially as they age. So what's most importsnt is being in good position to counter those losses with good contingency plans, and Dallas has those if losing Flo happens.

Unlike us fans, the coaching staff has an informed opinion (and I stress the word "opinion") on Free and McQ.

They may think that one of those guys is ready to step in. And in case they fail, Davis is the fallback.

As much as I hope we re-sign Flo, it's better not to overpay and get hamstrung in FA and have problems re-signing our other players.

It's just one of those tough decisions.

they could afford to get Jumbo, Jim Burt, Bryan Cox, (oh wait, he was thrown out of Miami, never mind) Vinny Testaverde, and maybe another stodgy old fart or two

I would expect this year to be more of a year of evaluating for BP...guys like Porter and Taylor could both be gone to clear up even more cap room before the end of next season. I wouldn't expect them to make a splash until then.

Yes, I think Flo wants the money and will be happy to protect the blindside of some no-name QB who probably can't run and can't throw as well as Romo. Of course Dolphin fans will be happy if they win 5 games in 08. And it's not like Flo isn't used to going 5-11. We'll see if in the end Flo really does leave.

If Miami's problem was their offense then they brought in the wrong guy to run the show in Parcells. The guy knows zip about offensive players or schemes.

Look for them to get old in a hurry this offseason. :lmao2:

We have big holes to fill at CB and WR. I'd really like to us use our 2 1st round picks wisely. Both of these players need to start this year.

You know, last year we had the same team needs at CB and WR. It wasn't fixed last year, and it really cost us in the playoffs. Say what you want, but Henry and Crayton really hurt us in that game.

Jerry needs to quit signing washed up players [i.e. Zack] and get his checkbook out. Give Flo the money.

Should be interesting to see what else they might do in free agency this year with that kind of money laying around. That kind of money, in this current league, a big team-changing splash could possibly be made if the right people were brought in and coached up right. Add in the #1 overall pick and things really start getting interesting.

How do you think flow would feel about an incentive based contract, such as say around 7 mil the next 2 years, and the next 3 or 4 yrs after the first 2 be based on playing time; where if he still playing at a top level then he gets the same amount, however if someone comes on strong to outseat him he could still stay with the team, but make say 2 to 5 million as a backup? with flow having the option to cancel the contract in 4 yrs if he is no longer a starter...

so depending on play he could have a contract of 6 yrs worth about 42mil as a starter or 6 yrs 20-34 mil or 4 yrs 18-to 24mil as a backup.

I think the line played better this year. But it also looked even better with Romo's mobility. I did think our line was a bit overrated being the runblocking just wasn't that good and being helped by Romo at times during passing plays...
