I might as well continue, win or lose. This is not an overreaction thread from me, maybe it was last week but not today. As I stated last week, the offense really had me worried. Not going to rehash last week, but the same trends continued(without receiving the six gifts).
For some reason, I am not as angry that I thought I would be. I knew going in that this would not be an easy game. I predicted we win in a close game but expected to see more offense. I stated somewhere earlier that in order to get this win, the offense would have to produce and they did not.
My thoughts, agreeable or not:
Defense
They played really well again but didn't force the turnovers, had a few chances, but none. They got gassed towards the end. Was it a penalty on Mo? Perhaps but we also got a gift on our last drive to keep us alive.
I didn't expect Alex to do that much running and I suspect our defense didn't either. Took them a bit to adjust but they did for the most part.
This line needs a healthier Spencer and Ratliff back, the sooner the better. I love Hatcher's play as well.
Offense
What to say again, I could write a book, but won't
Romo - He played decently for the first half, but stunk in the second. If Dez doesn't drop that pass, the outcome is probably different in the end. Can't fault Dez though for the loss, he did his part today. I love Romo and have always defended him but today, he was bad. Missing on a lot of throws, some pocket unawareness, etc.
Offensive line - not too good and not too bad, just mediocre. Waters needs in ASAP and this was Fred's worse game so far, including the pre-season.
Witten - He's the man, but he is also part of the problem. As long as he is in there, he is an easy outlet for Romo to dump it off too for minimal gain when needing more for a first down. I can only watch it so many times needing 6 yds for a first and throwing a 2yd pass knowing there will not be any YAC. Not saying it is Witten's fault, it is the schemes.
RB's - not sure yet, but it is hard for me to grade them with a below average line and a scheme that abandons the run too early. Murray looks to have no vision at times and just bulldozes defenders running blindly. Dunbar is explosive but that fumble didn't help his case to play more.
Tight Ends - We need more of them! Or at least some that can block and play FB
We need to get redzone TD's, not FG's. When we got the ball around KC's 40 late in the 4th, I jokingly told my sister for us to get a quick 5yds and kick a FG so we could get the ball back in time to kick the game winner thinking we would waste the clock down to less than a minute and kick a FG anyways with not enough time for another drive.
Special Teams
Thank heavens we have Dan Money.
In my opinion only:
This offense is stale, lacks creativity and needs an overhaul. What they are doing is not working. The third-down conversions are horrible. The no-huddle still takes way too long, they use most of the clock anyways. I do not see much of a faster pace yet. What was that screen play on formation in the red zone earlier? Puzzling playcall there. There are far too many short routes, especially when needing more for a first on third downs. We are in a 3rd and 8, throw it 2yds from the LOS or 1yd before the marker, brilliant. Once or twice is fine, not the majority. Hey guys, there is a middle part of the field to use at your liking, don't avoid it. Other teams roast us using it, give it a try. Is it the play-calling, is it Romo changing the plays too often, the scheme, what?
The remedy
We get the Rams at home next week and all will be forgiven, that is until the following week. I expect a better Romo to show up and put points on the board. That should be a win, but who knows. SD gave Houston a run for their money and beat Philly today. If we can win in SD, Denver is lurking. We need those two wins before Denver because the schedule only gets harder. Find and fix the problems now or go outside the box on offense if need be.
Ok, I'm finished. Flame me, tell me i'm an idiot, agree, like, whatever. This is just a way for me to vent, my wife doesn't listen or respond to me very well.
