I think Murray will go much higher then that but hey, I'd be really happy with that draft.

Barr and Lawrence would both be WDE's for Marinelli. I do like the players though.

You're right. We don't want more than one WDE.

Why would we not draft 2 WDE's? We have 0 right now. I'm not a huge fan of Lawrence, but 2 pass rushers would not be a bad thing at all. We have SDE covered with Selvie, Mincey, and Crawford.

I was being sarcastic. He said Barr and Lawrence would both be DE's, like that was a bad thing. We have a few guys suited for SDE but no one for WDE.

Yeah, I know what you're saying, even though sarcasm isn't always the best way to convey what you're thinking.

And you may be right that we need to draft two WDE's. But I think it is going to end up Selvie rotating at that spot, and Crawford and Bass will end up rotating at SDE. Selvie's best spot is WDE IMO. It was said a number of times in last year's preseason and watching him he certainly did seem to be more effective out of that particular position. You could see it in the exhibition games - he would get to the QB much better than he did from the strongside. However, they weren't going to move Ware for Selvie and he was our best option for SDE once Crawford and Bass went down with injury, so I understand why Marinelli played him on the weakside.

So, using two premier draft picks (rds. 1-3) on WDE's seems a little much unless you think one of them might could play some on the strongside. That in particular is why I like the idea of drafting Donald. Not only do I think he'll be the BPA for Dallas if we have a shot at him, but on passing downs he could play the 1-tech with Melton at the 3-tech, or Melton at the 1 and Donald at the 3. He could also rotate with Melton. He could give the team tons of rotational choices for those two DT spots.

If I'm right and Selvie does play WDE, then he would probably be in on run downs and Barr would come in on passing downs. Over on the other Side, Crawford would rotate with Bass.

As for Jeremy Mincey, I think he could play either DE spot, but I think he will be best on the weakside.

So you have Crawford, Bass, Selvie and Mincey. Four DE's is usually all a 43 defense will keep on their roster, but if they drafted Barr in the first, I'm thinking they might move Crawford or Bass to DT and put Selvie back at SDE.

If you were to take Lawrence in the 3rd, then that would likely put the team cutting one of Selvie, Bass or Mincey, which I don't think the team wants to do. Selvie's bang for his buck is very, very high. He got seven sacks from the strongside, and that was with Hayden or worse next to him all season long. Mincey they like. They made him a target early in free agency and he has a lot of the traits that Marinelli likes. They also like Bass a lot. He really has some ability for an UDFA, and again, has very high bang for buck, IMO.

So, if how I'm thinking is correct...

WDE - Barr, Mincey
DT -
DT -
SDE - Crawford, Selvie, Bass

... then there would be some redundancy there if you draft Lawrence, and Dallas would likely be forced to cut one of their current DE's, which is, again, something that I don't think they want to do.

Now if the team really doesn't like a couple of these guys as rotational guys and think they need to bring in another small, quick DE, then it would make more sense.

At this point, it is anyone's guess who is going to play where... but that is how I see it playing out. If it does happen that way, then I don't want to use another premium pick at WDE. There are just too many other needs for Dallas to take two DE's that have to play the same weakside spot and can't switch back and forth between both DE spots.

I'm on board with Donald. Like you said, he could play 1-tech on passing downs. He even played snaps at WDE in Pittsburgh. He can do it all. I'm all for it. And I agree that Selvie might be a better WDE. We still don't know what Crawford will play though. He could end up being our starting 1-tech. That leaves Mincey as our only SDE. In that case, I think Selvie would start at SDE like he did last year and then I can see us drafting two WDE's.
