BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn missed his fourth day of training camp Monday in a contract holdout that shows no signs of ending anytime soon for the first-round draft pick.

Now that all NFL training camps are open for business, coaches will tell you these absent rookies are falling behind in their programs by the minute.

Quinn, who figures to compete for the starting job with Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, has missed six practices so far.

Browns general manager Phil Savage has been in negotiations with Quinn's agent, Tom Condon, but the team said there was nothing new to report.

"I'm glad we've got the other guys out there," Savage said. "If anything, it's given Charlie and Derek the chance to get more reps, and that's a positive."

Savage characterized talks with Condon as "in the same neighborhood, but not on the same street."

A four-year starter at Notre Dame, Quinn was expected to be taken in the first 10 picks in April's draft. However, he slipped to No. 22, where the Browns nabbed him after trading a first-round pick in 2008 to the Dallas Cowboys.

Condon could be trying to get his client money in line with a top 10 selection, something the Browns already had to do to sign left tackle Joe Thomas, the No. 3 overall pick, who signed a five-year $42 million deal last week that included $23 million in guaranteed money.

With the exception of Quinn, all of Condon's picks in the first two rounds are in their respective camps.

Quinn also missed the club's rookie orientation program last week. Frye understands the importance of getting to camp as soon as possible.

"You just want to get here and build relationships with guys," Frye said. "This is the hardest part of the season, being in training camp. You just got to be optimistic and when you get here, you got to learn fast."

Pie in the sky, he misses training camp and the Browns start off 1-5 (very realistic given their opening five games). That should be about enough to insert a very green Brady Quinn. Hello first pick in the Draft!

Stick to your guns Brady. Don't let those Cleveland yahoos tell you what you're worth! Go for that top five pick money! Hold out all of training camp (who needs that anyway?)! :p:

I don't understand what sort of leverage Quinn's camp has in these negotiations.

Condon: Brady was expected to be a top ten pick and we want Brady to be paid as such.

Savage: But he wasn't. He was picked at 22.

Read somewhere that supposedly if Quinn doesn't get what he wants he has no problem sitting it out and going back into the draft in 08 cause he's slipped down so far in the first round. I think this kid needs a dose of reality.

Good...keep the holdout going. Also, when Quinn does finally come out of the closet Cleveland is not the most receptive city for that lifestyle.

I hope Culpepper goes to Oakland and helps them GREATLY!

And Quin sits all year and gets drafted by the giants in the top of the 3rd.

I think his greedy agent is giving him some bad advices. He got selected at #22 and he should be getting paid for being #22. Every draftees probably feel they should have been picked higher but the fact is they were selected whatever spot they weere selected and should be paid accordingly.

He will not be a first round pick in 2008.

Poor Browns fans. Thier misery is legendary.

First off, they haven't won anything since the 60's.

Then they loose thier team in 1996.

Then that renamed team actually wins the Superbowl in 2000.

And since the Browns rebirth in 2001-2002 they've had no luck. Devistating injury after devistating injury. Set back after set back.

Now it looks like they will have to endure the unendurable:
A death march to 2-14 without the even the meager consilation prize of speculating who they take 1st overall in 2008.

This isn't funny. It's sad.
It's a level of pain and suffering I'd only wish on an eagle fan.

Working off the Matt Leinart strategy, I guess. Which DID work, as I recall, and essentially stated: "you all were stupid not to take Matt in the top three. Now pay him for your stupidity."

BTW, I hear Mr Irrelevant hasn't shown up in camp yet.

He feels he 'slid' in the draft and deserves to be paid like at least a third rounder.

Dear Brady:
I would hold out for $15 million a year. And you demand that you can hire your old QB coach from Notre Dame.
Remember how relieved you were to be drafted by Cleveland? That you'd be an NFL hero playing close to home?
But this is real life. Don't be a homer!!!
Your girlfriend, with those hard looks and the bleached blonde hair, should be in a media center like New York or San Francisco. Where she could be a, ahem, model. And that is where you should be as well.
You could model three-piece suits in those big cities and make a million!
OK, so you gave up a lot of leverege with the Browns when you made it known you simply had to be drafted by the Browns. You sweated like Deion Sanders at a Sunday noon tent revival in Georgia. And then you were finally drafted by your beloved Browns. Now you are staying away from camp. Atta boy, Brady!
Keep up the good work!

Brady Quinn is a jerk.

I'm glad he's not a Dallas Cowboy.

McCustard has man-love for him... Glad he's in Cleveland.

Here's to him holding out all year!

Man, this would have been a disaster had we drafted him. He would have even less leverage here because we have Romo.
