A quick update on the unsigned rookies: Look for OLB Anthony Spencer to get his deal done before OT James Marten. Spencer could sign as early as today, but he has to travel from Indiana. The Cowboys are trying to get Marten to agree to a somewhat unusual deal, where he won't get most of the money until later in the contract, and he's holding firm.

Interesting words on Marten -- even if guaranteed, you never want your money later - inflation knocks down the value of the deal. But being the last guy to sign doesn't give much flexibility --

Spencer wasn't even in Austin with Camp already started? I find that a tad bit questionable.

I didn't realize the Cowboys are trying to hose Marten. I guess they see something in him, but find other things questionable. Due to now knowing whats actually being offered, I will withhold judgement.

Nah, that is norm for unsigned players.

Not being in town gives his agent a bit more leverage. If Spencer is there and waiting then he's going to get antsy and pressure his agent.

I don't think the team is trying to "hose" Marten -- there is only so much rookie pool space and it sounds like the way that teams are doing deals with bonuses this year is leaving the last guy to sign a little short.

I'd look for Marten to get done shortly -- the team has very little flexibility left here now that Spencer is done.

so his Agent could. It puts the pressure on the team to sign him, so he can come in.

My thoughts exactly. I would have been in Austin. This would have said I want to be here, but I need to get a contract that works. Not even being in the state screams, "Let me know when you are willing to pay and then I will show up."

IMO that is flawed logic that casts a negative impression of the players character.

It's not the player, its the agent

There hired to make the most money for the player. and the player is suppose to do what the agent says.

Not everything is a rookies fault

Like I said, it's flawed logic. Whether it's the players or the agents. It's still IMO flawed logic. While the agent can suggest, the player decides where he will be at what time. Of course rookies will be very impressionable and will listen to their agent, but he doesn't change the fact of the impression it gives.

It maybe flawed logic, but its worked somewhere.

And maybe it gives you a bad impression, but i think the orginzation could careless. As long as the player gets there that day, then its all good.

Spencer will be in for the afternoon practice. And thats all that i care about.

I think we should have started signing our draft picks earlier. Now it’s not only first round picks that are missing camp but also a third rounder. If the team wants Marten to sign a different kind of contract the process should have been started earlier.
