Points Allowed.......................27.0............ranks 26th in NFL

Rushing Yds Allowed...............135.5..........ranks 23rd in NFL

Passing Yds Allowed................303.0.........ranks 32nd in NFL

Total Yds Allowed..................438.5..........ranks 32nd in NFL

We are the worst team in the entire NFL against the pass and nobody has allowed as many yards from scrimmage as we have. (per game basis)

I never thought we would be the worst defense in the entire NFL.

good job using only 66% of a complete sample size against the rest of the teams. :banghead:

NFL uses per game basis, thus you can compare teams with unequal games played.

How do you think they compute team rankings when bye weeks come at different times during the season for different teams???

That is why averages are used and not cumulative totals. Yes it is a smaller sample size, but you are going to have that problem the entire season until every team has had its bye week.

Goodbye Wade. Our team has taken on the personality of the head coach as all NFL teams do.

In week 6 or so that plays, but the statistical sample sizes you are using to compare our team to the rest of the league is highly erroneous. I'd imagine there are more than a few folks here who took a stats class somewhere in their college years that can attest to the validity of my statement.

Exactly, when there's limited data, irregular results skew the data too much.

So a team that gives up 50 points in one game and 0 points in the next has a PPG of 25, even though the average isn't reflective of the performance in either game.

You are going to have that problem regardless!!!!

Three games played......you give up 40 pts, 40pts, 10 pts,

Your average points per game given up is 30. Is this indicative of the last game you played??? Of course not.

Guys, we all have had stats here and we all know about bell curves and outliers and all those fun stat class terms, but averages is how the NFL ranks teams.

Yes it is flawed statistically speaking, but that is how the NFL ranks teams and to suggest that the rankings dont mean anything until week 6 is just bizzare???

I really don't care what anyone says about the validity of the stats, the defense has sure as hell played on par with those rankings.

The defense has been putrid up until now.

Zero sacks, Zero turnovers. Can't stop a nosebleed.

Of course not, you're right...because the data sample is too small. Our rankings could drastically change after tomorrow nights game...because the data sample is so small. The number of games played matters, right now all of the averages are meaningless.

It's like looking at a baseball players stats after 20 games and seeing he has 4 HRs and then looking at Albert Pujols who has 1. Sure, the random player has done better over 20 games. Big deal, let's check back after more games have been played.

Looking at our ranking after playing 2 games is honestly no less ridiculous than looking at it after 1 game.

Some people don't want to recognize how bad our defense is. Pretty clear.

4 weeks of stats make a good trend. Anything less and you can either panic or get excited for no reason really.

I think people are forgetting that defenses tend to improve as the year goes on.

But is there any doubt that the pass defense has monumentally stunk this season regardless of rankings criteria used? They have been horrible so far.

May I interest you in some great stocks? They were doing great in the first 8 months of 2008. Don't worry about the third set of data representing the last four months of 2008, nothing bad happened. Nothing at all.

Point is that the defense isn't doing anywhere near as good as hoped, but to compare 2 data sets against a league-wide 3 is hugely erroneous.

Great example would be the Giants. You take their first two defensive efforts against the run, average them, and they're tied for 29th. Now pay attention to statistical significance, add in their last game, and what do you know they're now ranked 19th.

Nah, no difference at all between 2 data sets and 3. ;)

You have to loathe the game of football to justify any support of this defense. It's simply ugly and bad football no matter how you slice it. How anyone can support this defense is just contradictory to supporting good, solid football.

I never thought we would be the worst defense in the entire NFL.

Dude this is after 2 games which means nothing. Now if we're still in the same spot after 7 or 8 games, then I would worry. You get nothing after just 2 games... Nothing!!!

The Giants and Bucs both did more offensively against us than against either of their other opponents. And the Bucs played the Giants yesterday and did absolutely nothing the entire game.

I agree its only two games and every week is different, but our defense has been SO bad that I dont think you can completely overlook it. The starting defense wasnt getting any sacks and turnovers in preseason either.

I'm definitely concerned.

Woo Hooo, Our defense has been last in the NFL for 7 weeks and were 2-4 and last in the division but now it's week 8 and we are turning it around!!!

Those first 6 weeks really ment nothing.......Nothing!!!!

Sorry, your thinking is flawed.

its no surprise the defense didn't play well. Look out for a breakout game tonight ,they are inconsistent just like the offense which looks super bowl caliber one game and drop a bomb the next week.

No my thinking isn't flawed at all. It's 2 games and I'm not losing my mind because our D isn't playing well. That's ridiculous!! Again, we look like this 6, 7, or 8 games in then I'll look at the numbers. But, 2 games in to season, that's crazy...
