There's no question it's a need. The Hardy signing shouldn't effect the draft at all.

I think it only affects the draft in a positive way. Right now, they're not locked into drafting a DE at all costs, possibly reaching for one at #27. After Hardy's signing, they can still take one if he's the BPA, but they're not forced to do it.

From those numbers, the players leaving Dallas received 124 million in contracts, now I know that it isn't guaranteed in the Not For Long league, but it seems an insane amount for who it is. Makes me a little nervous and I hope other teams are just over valuing their talents.

its an enormous amount of money paid to our FAs. So Dallas either had the deepest talent in league or teams over-paid for players from highly visible highly marketed franchise.

It is always a good sign when our players are coveted and picked up when we cut them.

So Jack Crawford is better than Anthony Spencer?

There are times when a GM needs to step in say...Not in my house!

For some reason Jerry and Stephen seem really averse to offering anyone extensions unless they are stars and only if they agree to very favorable terms. Demarco and Dez were stars but wouldn't agree to the terms Dallas was offering so Demarco walked and Dez was franchised. Tyron agreed to the terms offered and was extended. Everyone else basically just about sniffed FA before being offered anything.

I think they believe it makes for a hungry team. I wonder if they believe their pro scouting department is just so good that they can find cheaper players who are used incorrectly and thus undervalued who will be better scheme fits here and thus there is no need to get in a bidding war for their own players above the values they have assigned to them.

I don't know that it is a good strategy since you only want so much roster turnover and you generally want some roster continuity. I really hope they change course and get a deal done with Crawford. It is a shame we wasted one year with him as a 5-tech and then another year due to injury. Now we only have one more cheap year with him before he hits FA. Now would be a great time to get a deal done before the season starts so he can gain financial security and we can secure a future cog on our DL.
