Urlacher would have played for Cowboys

07:00 AM ET 05.24 | Brian Urlacher walked away from football this week, somewhat ironically on good knees. "I wanted to feel good in the offseason," Urlacher said. "I had a little pain after the season. But my knee feels unreal now. Good timing, huh?" ... Although the Bears seemed to leave open the possibility of an Urlacher return months after sending out a parting news release, such a scenario never materialized. Some speculated Urlacher would end up with the rival Vikings based on that team's need for a middle linebacker. Only one team outside of the Bears truly intrigued Urlacher. "If I could have picked a spot, it would have been Dallas," Urlacher said. "(The Cowboys) run our defense. They took our d-coordinator (Rod Marinelli). That would have been ideal."

If we suffer devastating injuries at LB I'm sure he will get a call.

When Stephen Jones was first asked about Urlacker he said how he liked the young LBs we have, but that with a future HOFamer like Urlacker you never rule him out.

I take that to mean that we're going with our guys, but if anything changes on that front, like a season ending injury, then Urlacker is back in the consideration set.

I still would have considered adding Urlacher seeing that he knows the system and that Lee has had issues staying on the field. If Lee goes down again, I don't feel comfortable with what we have at the Mike behind him. I wouldn't mind Urlacher coming in and taking over the position.

Dont they all, but if he could play the WILL that might have been nice. to be honest all the defensive guys that where looking for homes (woodson, freeney, Abraham) Im shocked we didnt look at ANY of them I guess uncle Monte like our yungins...

The reason you don't is that he takes the roster spot of a young player you would have like to keep. If you need a starting MLB, then yes, but not to be a backup, never play, and cost a young player a roster spot. You want to sign a guy like him AFTER you suffer a serious injury at the position. A vet is always available.

Yeah that's what I mean. Like if Lee gets hurt again, then someone like Urlacher could step in and take the position. It's important not to block the development of the younger guys, but if they are not ready or capable, then I don't see anything wrong with getting an experienced veteran than can step in.

Urlacher may have lost a step or two, but "McCurdy" (as you call) him has yet to find one. Over exaggerate much?

Urlacher's leadership, play calling and knowledge of Marinelli and Kiffin's scheme would have been invaluable.

Considering how injury prone Lee and Carter have been, it might just be a matter of time.

He's still a decent player, and someone you might turn to in a pinch, but once the season has started and his salary isn't guaranteed. Over the past few years, he's had his share of injuries as well, and his level of play has definitely declined.

If Lee were to get hurt again, I'd rather move Carter to MLB and put Sims or one of the young guys at Will.

Veteran leadership, who knows the defense ? I would be for this. If the team is to win you need some roll players like him playing. Yes, some young guy may lose playing time, but if it is win now, sign him.
