I'm probably the only chess enthusiast in this little corner of Cowboys World, but I find it fascinating that an American (Wesley So) may be about to actually surpass the great Magnus Carlsen for #1 rating in the known universe!

So needs to score 9,5 out of 11 to overtake Carlsen as the World #1. If he starts with 5/5 they will be tied on Sunday. #USChessChamps

By "9,5", he means a score of 9.5 out of 11 possible points. It is 1 point for a win, 1/2 point for a draw, 0 for a loss.

The USA has three of the top 10 players in the world, and not many months ago won the International team title - basically the Olympics equivalent of competition - for the first time in 40 years.

So, we got that going for us. :)

Surprised Japan, China, and India don't have more top players.

And when did Nakamura get good? I thought he was just a boy?
