It is...unless you're one of those idiots that constantly looks at the passenger when they're talking to them.

Can't say I've ever seen anyone look at their bluetooth while talking on it.

That is because you are part of the two-thirds who think they are better at driving than they really are.

No it is because I take driving seriously and pay attention to my surroundings first and fore most. I have been driving for over 25 years and have NEVER been in an accident.

Again I ask, why do you want to be a slave to your cell phone??
Im not but if I am making a long drive and need to make a call, or a client of mine has a question for me I should have the right to take the call. It is rare that I talk on the phone while driving but it does happen from time to time. The whole mentality of the government deciding what is in our best interest has to stop. Punish the idiots who arent paying attention, not the 90% who drive with caution.

They should just make handsfree systems mandatory on all cars, and make it up to the driver to use it or not. Use it - great. Don't use it and get caught - pay.

This isn't hard. Maryland just instituted a similar law, and it's been the law on military bases for years.

We have a winner.

I'm just going to point out that the first time there is a near fatal accident where a person has to wait hours for help because they are pinned in the car and cant call out for help(and you know it will happen) this whole thing will be scrapped.

ill also point out the logistics problem of getting the technology in every car on the road. i personally would buy a used car that did not have the jammer and if i did get one with it i would probably figure out how to disable it

You missed the point completely. A conversation with someone there in the car is different with that of one with someone on the phone (blue-tooth or otherwise) UNLESS you're someone that looks at the passenger in the car with you while you talk to them, then it's about the same as a conversation with someone on the phone.

No I didn't miss the point, I just disagree with it completely.

Pretty stupid if they do this.

Like someone else said, this seems to be a subject that all the politicians have jumped on for whatever reason.

It is equally bizarre to hear someone claim that nobody should be talking on the cellphone while driving.

Some of us are very responsible and are capable of talking while on the phone. Typically when I am in unfamiliar places or the weather is bad, I will get off the phone.

No need to punish everyone because of the negative actions of the few.

What would be utterly ridiculous is if Cellphones were outlawed while Car TVs were still allowed.

Doesn't matter if you disagree with it. It's not really an opinion to disagree with either. It's true whether you want to agree with it or not.

And your comments displayed a misunderstanding, not disagreement.

I was just pointing out how asinine it was to say "talking on a bluetooth is no different than looking at a passenger while talking to them".

Explain to me how its true just because you say it is? For most normal people there is no difference between talking to a passenger and talking to someone through a bluetooth. Talking is talking, its not that complicated.

No, it's not the same. There is situational awareness that a passenger has that someone on the other end of a call is not capable of. I know this goes over the head of a few people here, but it's not all that difficult to comprehend really. It's about how the person you're talking to adjusts to what's going on as you drive, and the person on the other end has no way to do that. And yes, it does make a difference in your concentration level.

Now some people are able to handle this a lot better than others, but no matter who you are, your concentration is affected to some extent.

Now if you have a stupid passenger, or a stupid driver who looks at their passenger, then it's not really going to be any better, but generally speaking a person will be less distracted having a conversation with a passenger than they will with someone on the phone.

i think their argument is that a passenger has situational awareness where as the person on the line does not.

i agree with you though talking is talking, people that are bad drivers are going to be distracted no matter what because driving the car is not their main focus. i can focus on driving and have a conversation and have no problem telling the other person to repeat something or hang on or call back because I'm driving in bad weather but some people don't have enough common sense to make driving the priority and talking secondary.
