Last week was the first episode. I was really surprised how much I liked it. Tonight is the 2nd episode.

Description from USA Network's site

MR. ROBOT follows Elliot (Rami Malek, “The Pacific”), a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader (Christian Slater, “The Adderall Diaries”) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world. The series also stars Portia Doubleday (“Her”), Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”) and Martin Wallström (“Simple Simon”).

The size, scope, and direction of the show are a complete mess. It had potential, but I don't think they knew what to do with it. They were too focused on selling the pilot here and I think that did them in. That whole fsociety vs evocorp should have been an entire season arc.

Just watched the 2nd episode and it was still good. The fsociety vs E Corp (EvilCorp) did not end with the pilot episode so not sure what you are saying.

I've seen the first two episodes and I have to admit I'm intrigued. Can't wait for the next episode. The drug dealer guy has got to go.

I wasn't saying it was resolved, I meant their tacking down the CEO should have lasted longer. The show definitely struggles with scope. It doesn't know what to do. Wants to develop the main character, but has this large overarching plot line that takes the focus away from any sort of character development. Yet it also tries to small time it with minor plot points about the psychiatrist or the neighbor.

It should have started small with focus on character development and then went larger.

Watched ep 1 like a month ago on hulu and then there was never an ep 2. Glad I saw this thread to look it up again. Thanks.

The tone and look of the show feels right. The lead guy was good. Felt a little like if Holden Caulfield grew up in the internet age. The hacker stuff didn't make me laugh or groan, which I would say is the first time that's happened since War Games i think. Usually tv/movies are so absurd with realistic technology it's easy to tune out.

Rest of the cast though...not good. The young E Corp exec actor is playing it like he's the literal antichrist. Who knows though. Maybe he is. Maybe this turns into a hacker version of The Devil's Advocate.

Thank you Roger Ebert. ;)

It's still very interesting with lots yet to unfold. They're still on track with wiggle room for side stories.

I'll let them finish the season before making my decision whether it works or not.

No. You won't.

It has been decided.

Due to high ratings, this show has already been picked up for a second season.

I didn't say it would be cancelled this season.

I said it is going to have problems keep its quality high moving forward. Haven't seen episode 3 yet though.

Episode three is fairly graphic. I did not care to see the young CTO villain character pick up a dude at a club, and then show him going doggy-style on him. That was nasty and out of line. They're really making an effort to cram that crap down everyone's throat.
Then, after he leaves the dude, he goes back home to his very pregnant wife who demands that he bound and gag her while laying in bed. They are really going off the deep end.
I'm definitely reassessing the need to continue watching it.

I didn't know you said anything at all about this show but thanks for sharing. Episode 3 furthered the story as expected. I could have done without the gay sex scene.

Funny, I thought episode 3 was by far the best and most balanced episode.

Finished watching the first three episodes.

Not bad. The lead guy's eyes wigs me out a bit. The whole thing is dark. Has a dystopian/apocalpytic type vibe going vibe with it. Has the anti hero thing going. So it is dark and might need an injection of humor from time to time to keep it from getting to glum/glib but so far I like it even thought they are pushing a little too hard to make the young exec the bad guy. We get it, he is smart, ruthless, power hungry, greedy, likes to go and fight homeless guys to get out his aggression, goes and picks up guys for booty calls and goes home and talks russian with his wife/girl friend who is into BDSM even though she is pregnant...what's next, is he going to start burning insects and dissecting animals.

Show like this will struggle with longevity. That's why the pacing is already terrible. They have no idea how to pull this story across 10 episodes without a massive amount of filler and side story.

I tend to dislike "Dream" episodes of shows.

Oh and it may be cursed because shows have a horrible lasting rate (if that is such a thing) when Christian Slater is in them.
