Coming out of college, he wasn't 298 pounds (and I don't know if he is now). I believe if I remember correctly that he was around 280. So either he beefed up when they moved him inside or that number is wrong.

Correction: nfldraftscout.com had him at 261.

I looked up his pro day numbers, and he measured 6-0 1/2, 261 pounds. But he also did 23 reps on the bench, ran a 4.72 40 and a 4.44 20 and "possesses the arm length of guys who are 6-foor-5."

Teams at all levels tend to inflate or deflate a player's size, depending upon the position they play. That is why I chose the team stats on players at the same position. If Neal isn't really 298, Paea is probably not 300 either.

I think this staff values an average and known commodity over possibly a better guy. We'll see.

He's 270 now.

That's probably fair, but just from looking at them, it would appear to me that Paea is quite a bit bigger.

Now that was Neal at 261, so it appears he's closed the gap some ... and it's possible that Paea has slimmed down a little.

Keep in mind that he's not going to get 1,000 snaps. Probably more like 3-400 IF he makes the team.

That itself will help keep him from getting too beaten up.

No it's not. Top to bottom SEC still better and not living off weak schedules.

I didn't realize his arms were so long. SEC hype is cloying but he has a shot to develop.

He has good off the ball quickness which belies his pro day numbers. The jumps, run and agility drills were decidedly average. The issue I with him is what happens when the blocker doesn't miss and he doesn't win off the ball. He lacks the technique and upper body strength to counter or even disengage.

I think the suspensions put Neal in a great position to make the roster, especially as an interior lineman.

As is, with Crawford set to start at left end (possibly thanks to Irving's suspension), Dallas has three interior linemen for the rotation: Collins, Thornton and Paea. Neal is contending for the fourth spot against the likes of Ivie, Carrell, Baron and Ash.

I could see Ivie being kept, but he isn't outplaying Neal, so if he's kept it will be because Dallas decided to carry five DTs. That's possibly because of the suspensions for Irving and Moore.

Right now, I'd say four DEs are locks: Lawrence, Crawford, Mayowa, Charlton, with Tapper likely to also make the team. Lenny Jones is also a possibility. So four to five DTs is certainly not out of the question. I originally had us carrying 10 total.
The weird thing is that if they cut him on the cut day he'll probably make it to the practice squad; however, if he makes it initially and gets cut when Irving returns, somebody will likely claim him.

I don't think Neal will bump Thornton off the 53. Thornton and Paea are the 1-techs, and then Collins, Irving and Neal / Ivie are the 3-techs.

IF they carry 10 DL to start the season, it will probably look something like this (Irving and Moore are suspended to start the season and won't count on the 53):

DE (6) : Lawrence, Taco, Mayowa, Crawford, Tapper, Lenny Jones

DT (4) : Thornton, Paea, Collins, Neal

To make room for 10 DL perhaps they go 7 at LB:

Sean Lee
Anthony Hitchens
Damien Wilson
Jaylon Smith
Mark Nzeocha
Justin Durant
John Lotulelei

That would leave 8 spots for DBs - tough to trim this group down to 8:

Orlando Scandrick
Nolan Carroll
Byron Jones
Jeff Heath
Xavier Woods
Anthony Brown
Chidobe Awuzie
Jourdan Lewis

Kavon Frazier
Duke Thomas
Marquez White

That would make 25. 25 for the offense, 3 for special teams right? 53

The cool part about that particular clip was that he probably wasn't two steps behind #95 (when contact with the runner was made) who vectored straight to the q b while being virtually unblocked from the left side while Neal fought constant pressure while hammering 4 yards deep into their backfield straight up the middle,,, the shade on this good looking play is that most of that rams O.L. looked like a half effort , most notably once the Dallas players blew past they finished the play on their feet bird/sky watching

Drop off the 7th LB and add Frazier. Lenny Jones is no lock either. Thomas or White could take that last spot. Everyone on the bubble goes to the PS.
