Going to an NFL game this year? Prepare to pay more.

The average price of an NFL ticket rose 4% this season to $75. The increase was fueled largely by the steep prices at the Cowboys' new stadium, Team Marketing Report's survey of NFL ticket prices said. (See the full survey in a pdf here.)

Dallas surpassed New England and now has the most expensive tickets in the league. They average $160, an increase of 90% from last season. Twenty-four teams kept their ticket prices stable.

The sticker shock doesn't end with the cost of tickets, however. The Fan Cost Index -- what it takes to bring a family of four to a game -- is $759 in Dallas, by far the highest in the league.

I'm confused. They just said about a month or so ago that the Commanders and Patriots are still more expensive than the Cowboys. Now it's the other way around?!?!?!

I got 2 real good seats at a good price when I saw the Cowboys cards game last year...For similar seats at the Cowboys stadium it's almost double the price.

$759 for four is ridiculous. It is one thing if it is split between 4 friends but entirely different thinking of a dad taking his kids.

When I go on-line to look for Cowboys tickets, I would do a search for - - Dallas Washington, Dallas Philadelphia, etc.

That type of search would find both home and away games.

It always seems less expensive for the game in Dallas than the away games.

Especially in Wash.

Maybe Jerry has to pay for the new stadium some how. :D

It's because different studies use different standards. This study is very misleading because they are including club seats as part of the "average ticket" price.

Fact is the most expensive general admission ticket in the the new stadium is $125 face value, with the vast majority of seats coming in at $99 or less. (When I say "general admission" I mean non-club-seats).

Meanwhile, in New England, the most expensive general admission ticket is $169, which I believe is also the most expensive in the league. Of course, the Patriots don't charge PSL/PSO fees so you save a little money there if you are a STHer.

The actual face value cost of a ticket in the new stadium is very reasonable - if anything it's a bit low. But the STHers are getting screwed on the PSO fees. I have no idea what the secondary market looks like for these seats, or if any singles are available through the team.

You can play with the numbers in so many different ways because you can choose what constitutes a "ticket". Factor in 30,000 party passes at less than $40 and Dallas has one of least expensive ticket prices in the league, factor out "premium" seating and stadiums without luxury rocket up the chart.

I think the best way to look at ticket prices is the secondary market. If I want to go to a game, what do I really have to pay. It's too early in the first season at the new stadium to know but look at some of the other stadiums.

Washington tickets typically sell for 80-90% of face value, Pittsburgh tickets 150-200% (excluding rivalry games on both). Which is more expensive for me to go to if I'm not a season ticket holder? Both have extremely loyal fanbases. Pittsburgh's better onfield success may play a role, but I believe that the differences in stadium size play a bigger role in the secondary pricing.

I would think that given the size of the new stadium and the availability of party passes, I won't have to pay more than face value for games as early as next season.

My tickets face value didn't go up this year. Stayed the same as last year.

And I'm pretty sure there are some 250 dollar nonclub seats, lower 4th deck sideline tickets come out around there.

I think it's great that some of you guys can get and afford tickets to see the games live, but, let's face it, for many average Joes out there, the cost of going to a game and taking your kids is prohibitive. It's a sad fact, but the majority of us will simply have to watch it on TV. In my case, I'd have to include the price of a plane ticket and hotel as well. If I use Orbitz, I can get a flight and hotel for as little as $740, not including my game ticket or transportation to the game. I figure I could pull it off for around $1000, but my wife might have a problem. ;)

Funny you mention that. The wife wanted to "Take us to a game at the new stadium" for my Christmas present. We started to look at prices and dumped the whole idea. I won't see a game there until my kids have graduated, sadly. The good news is one is a junior and the other is a freshman. Only a few more years to go.:(

Tickets here in Denver are going for 2 to 3 times face value for most games. I paid $1400 for 2 club level, 40 yard line, first row seats to the Dallas game.

If it wasnt for the fact Dallas only comes to town once every 4 to 8 years, I wouldnt go to the game.

I was priced out of attending games some years ago.

With parking and tickets..gas to get there...it's just not affordable for me.
