2023 NFL Mock Draft: Blockbuster Aaron Rodgers trade edition!

Yes, it’s bowl game season, which makes it a great time for a mock draft. But we’re not yet focusing on the bowl games in this particular forum — we’ll do that soon. What it’s time to do in our mock draft exercises is to speculate about a possible league-altering trade that may or may not actually happen. Fun!

In this case, we are sending Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets under the following conditions:

The Green Bay Packers trade Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets for the Jets’ first- and second-round picks in 2023, their first-and second-round picks in 2024, and their first-round pick in 2025.

that isn't gonna happen the price is to high and he's gettting to long in the tooth for a trade like that. its a gm killer

Pretty weird mock. No way Bijan Robinson falls to #28. If he did and we didn’t draft him then we would be just another stupid team to pass him up. Bijan’s an offensive weapon.

I saw the pick and was turned off then I saw what came after the Cowboys pick and thought the pick would be totally different...Broderick Jones or Bijan.

I was going to read this further, but after seeing that they think NYJ would send three #1’s and two #2’s for a QB who will be 40 next year, I’m already checked out.

I'm from Tennessee and Aaron Rodgers bought a house here. So I would have him going to the Titans.

always thought he’d be a Raider. Thought he wanted to go back west and he could play with Adams again. But guessing he does indeed get traded to one of those three…NY, TN, or LV

I would think SF would be his ideal team.

Yeah
that trade is pretty insane

too much capital...plus I suspect Rodgers would retire before playing for the Jets.

I'm not for taking a RB in the top 5, but I'd think once the draft gets outside the top 10 (and especially in the 20 range) someone is going to jump on him

Nope.

If this team throws another first round pick at a TB, they deserve the next 10 years of futility coming. Will we learn the lesson of Elliott or not?

Here's the thing. Most teams understand positional value and few if any give their TBs big 2nd deals. But the Cowboys rarely, if ever, don't try to resign their high picks. If we take a TB early and he does well, there is zero doubt Jerry is gonna then resign him for big bucks, which is a dumb roster move.

So nada on a TB in the first. Just churn the position like other smart teams do.

Passing up Bijan Robinson would be the height of stupidity. The Cowboys have their best success with elite RBs.
Bijan also has the hands of a WR and is deadly in the Passing game for those that want to claim that this is a Passing league.
As late as we will be picking all the blue chip defensive talent will be off the board.

This draft is using last weeks drafting order.. It's different now.

They won 12 and likely 13 games the last two years with no "elite" TB. Elliott isn't elite. Neither is Pollard.

Look what they did with Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith. Super Bowls.
Zeke started out on an elite level.
And DeMarco Murray was elite for one year. That was our last best season.
The Cowboys are a run first team and that should be maximized.

Robinson will elevate this offense more than any WR or TE in this draft.

Its all moot because he's not falling to us anyway.
The RB from UCLA would be a great consolation prize in later rounds.

Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith were close to 3 decades ago and 4 decades ago. Having an elite TB was more important back in those days when the league was more ground based. Saying we need to draft TBs high and have elite TBs because we won a SB with Emmitt Smith in 1995 is bizarre. It's an entirely different game now where we have seen over and over and over and over and over and over and over in recent years teams make runs and win SBs while not spending a ton of resources on the TB position. San Fran made the SB a few years ago as a run first team. Did it with building a great OL and cobbling together a running back room consisting of guys like Mostert and Coleman.

Only in Dallas would we be arrogant enough to think that hey, these other guys don't have a clue, what you need is an elite TB. This was the exact same argument made when we took Elliott at 5. And what did that get us? Nothing.

Want to be a dominant run team? Build a great OL. You get way more mileage out of a good to great OL than an elite TB. Churn those middle rounds and FA to build out a TB room.

Over simplification.

Late 1st vs top 5 is a completely different scenario.

If the team thinks that Bijan is the next Adrian Peterson then it's an easy decision to draft him.

DT Devonte Malik Wyatt was #28 last year. Passing on Adrian Peterson for a Devonte Wyatt type player would be absurdly stupid.

When they drafted Taco, RB Dalvin Cook was the top ranked played on their board that was available...
