the most uneventful 0-0 game i have seen. and ESPN we blowing the hype through the roof:cool:

did anyone else see? i had to force myself to watch it because honestly i am not a big fan of futbol/soccer. i just wanted to see if this rivalry game was going to be gritty.

i kept flipping back and forth to the mavs game with the majority on the mavs game.

thoughts fellow czers?

I saw the 2nd half. Mexico's fans were trying to blind our players with lasers. We still got a point ouf of it so it's a win for us. Now Mexico is in trouble in the bracket.

Our offense sucks. Our defense hasn't been bad at all for years but we just can't score :(

blinding with lasers?? whaaat? man thats awful they can really damage a players eye with that.

i was reading up on the rivalry a little bit and apparently the mexican fans also would fill up bags of urine and throw it at opposing players. i don't think it happened this time around but it has happened quite often in the past.

edit: also i read somewhere that the all time record in usa vs mexico games was like 28-1-1 in favor of mexico before this game or something

Actually with the players that the US put out there they should have lost by 3 goals. They were missing 6 starters. The Mexican team had all of their players and to tie them in place where they have only lost once in qualifying play is a very big deal. Besides, there was not a lot of going on last night in the world of sports.

great result for the usa.

sets us up well for the remainder of qualifying.
4 home games and toughest remaining games are at home.

game itself was interesting to watch.

mexico was the far better side for the first 20 minutes and the last 20. us was every bit as good in the middle of the game. the us really should have gotten something out of set pieces but was content to play it very safe and stay behind the ball for defense.

mexico had far more chances but never could finish. the makeshift us defense was pretty darn good. beasley was picked on a lot but he also provided nice rushes up the left side. ashley cole he is not but in that soft defender for pace setting left back role he worked out ok.

omar gonzalez was just good. that guy is a keeper.

usa rather controlled the middle for long stretches with dempsey and bradley.

donovan and dempsey will be fine offensively if they get them back on the same page and performing by 2014. altidore needs to come off the bench and get his 30 minutes. he was the lone offensive threat as dempsey played defense.

fairly lucky chicarrito didnt sneak one home but all in all great set up for this american side that can get healthy and bring back donovan before the next set of qualifiers.

It was a FANTASTIC result. 6 starters out, and 2 of their replacements were injured. The US had only gotten a point in that toilet bowl ONE TIME BEFORE IN HISTORY. Mexico has only given up a total of EIGHT points in that place in their history of playing WCQ games their. It was a brilliant, determined, gutsy, and lucky effort. Cant wait until we pwn them in Columbus in September.

This rivalry is intense. I pity the fool if you go to a USA Mexico match in somewhere like Dallas or Chicago and DARE to wear the Stars and Stripes.

It's impossible to have watched that game and come out thinking that the US was the better team. But, a point is a point.

Actually, Mexico's center back Francisco “Maza” Rodriguez and left back Jorge Torres Nilo were both out through suspension. That doesn't change the fact that the U.S. played a good defensive match and gaining a point was very important.

But there will be a score at the end of September when we are in 2014 Brazil.

the bags full of urine is 100% fact. My family is from El Salvador and they have told me stories about people doing it at the stadium there. In latin american countries, they sell water and soda at the games in sandwich bags with a straw. after they are done they pee in them, tie them up and throw them at opposing fans and players. pretty disgusting.

as for the record, thats actually the record IN mexico, not overall. its not quite the opposite in the US, but then again, most games played vs mexico here have more mexican fans in the stands than american ones, specially when its in LA or Texas.

from a tactical stand point USA had a better over all game. I wish we would run 2 strikers up top with EJ and JA, that would create space for either of them or leave room for Clint to sink some in.

Side note, keep LD out! Never liked him never will, can he play yes sometimes but there are better players then him out there!

Anyone see the Under 20's game, it was like Mexico vs Mexico (USA)

USA needs a CF or a CAM that can break the defense down with their dribbling.

Hopefully this brazillian move gets Adu back into the game. He has all the talent in the world, but he is a moron.

Adu had a trial with the totally rubbish Danish side Randers. They didn't even want him. That's all you need to know.
