Our final full seven-round mock of the offseason is upon us. The 2019 NFL draft is just six days away, although the Cowboys will likely have to wait on the seventh day before they make their first selection. The needs are well known. The strategy is pretty clear. After shoring up several holes in free agency, and knowing there’s cap space and veterans available to be plucked after the draft, the Cowboys are truly operating with a sense of ease at this point.

Of course, all that changes once they are on the clock. Using Fanspeak’s On The Clock simulator, we took to the Cowboys War Room and devised what we think is the perfect strategy for what they want to accomplish in the 2019 season. They want a plug-and-play starter? Got it. They want a complete back to compliment Ezekiel Elliott? Check. They want size in the secondary? Covered, pun intended. No. 58: Deionte Thompson, Safety, Alabama

It wasn’t too long ago that Thompson was considered the consensus top safety in the draft. The Cowboys didn’t bring him in for a 30 visit and he’s been surpassed in the eyes of many by several safety prospects. That is to Dallas’ gain. Thompson fits the size profile Kris Richard looks for in defensive backs. He fits the big-school pedigree that Jason Garrett loves and he fits the plug-and-play edict from the Cowboys’ front office. Oh yeah, and the kid can absolutely ball.
