Rico Gathers has struggled to make any noticeable splash on the field. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t be the case off the field. Gathers has battled for a few years now to become a legitimate serviceable tight end for the Dallas Cowboys. Before the Cowboys were faced with the decision of final roster cuts just before the 2018 season started, Gathers was arrested.

His arrest was for a drug possession and he posted bond the same night to be released. Gathers wasn’t cut from the Cowboys and he would go on to have an unproductive three catches for 45 yards this past season. Following the season, it’s been learned Gathers charges have been dropped to a Class C misdemeanor.

Cowboys TE Rico Gathers has reached a deal with Collin County D.A. office regarding his arrest on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. It will be reduced to a Class "C" Misdemeanor, 90 Days deferred adjudication, $99 fine, plus court costs, according to court records.

The tight end will likely be likely be fine legally but regardless of this outcome he will find it hard to make the Cowboys in 2019.

For a couple of years now the Cowboys staff has indicated they aren’t exactly trusting of his ability on a football field. At least not enough to garner significant snaps week in and week out. With Jason Witten coming back to lead the tight end room featuring Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz his future may have already been sealed.
