With Thursday’s completion of minicamp, it’s now about six weeks until the Dallas Cowboys reconvene and start on their hopefully seven-month journey to a sixth Lombardi trophy. Dallas has a few injury concerns, but nothing devastating and nothing projected to last too deep into the regular season, at least according to their regularly scheduled optimistic approach.

With plenty of newcomers, and one of the youngest rosters in the league, Dallas has put itself in a position to have it’s deepest collection of talent in years. That is, if everyone makes the leap that is expected of them in the offseason. One of the easiest traps to fall into is that of offseason expectations, though. Not everyone ascends in the manner hoped, and that can often lead to disappointing results.

Here, in our 53-man roster projection with a 10-man practice squad, we’ll try to take great care in not projection sunshine and lollipops for everyone, and include forecasts for some players not to reach their full potential.

Quarterback (2)

Starter: Dak Prescott

Backup: Cooper Rush

Practice Squad: Mike White

Rush takes the position here for us, projecting a winner of a camp-long battle. The idea is that White can make it to the practice squad, with other teams caught up in their own developmental projects at the position and Dallas can use the extra space to go long at a position that will contribute in 2019.

Oh yeah, Prescott will be in the running for MVP this season.

Running Back (3)

Starter: Ezekiel Elliott

Backups: Tony Pollard (R), Mike Weber (R)

Practice Squad: Darius Jackson

No real surprises here. Dallas drafted two running backs in the same draft for a reason, as a clear plan to augment Elliott in the normal offense with Pollard and a contingency plan for suspension or injury in Weber.

Jackson and Jordan Chunn are in a coin flip for practice squad spot, but Dallas will keep one.

Fullback (1)

Starter: Jamize Olawale

Olawale will be a much bigger part of the Dallas offense in 2019.
