There’s an old saying, ‘the plan is the plan, until the plan changes.’ That encapsulates the Dallas Cowboys this season.
They had a plan to be one of the best teams in the league. There were loaded on offense, they finally spent money on quality free agents to help fix the defense and most importantly, they brought in a new coaching staff. There were good feelings about the Cowboys heading into the season.
Then, the schedule kicked off and things weren’t so great. We’re now seven weeks in and the season has turned into a debacle. There have been injuries, coupled with wretched play and poor coaching. That’s a bad combination.
Make no mistake about it, the Cowboys are one of the worst teams in football.
The Dallas Cowboys are the third-worst team in football, according to FPI. Only ahead of the Jets and Jaguars.

From expecting to compete for a Super Bowl, to being looked at as a laughing stock is a mighty fall for any team, but it hurts more when you’re the Dallas Cowboys.
It gets worse, it appears as though the team has no heart. There’s no fight in this group; look no further than last Sunday and the weak reaction to QB Andy Dalton getting knocked out on a cheap shot.
There’s another old adage that says you find out what you’re made of when you get hit in the mouth. Well, we’ve seen what these Cowboys are made of, and it’s disheartening. They don’t just play poorly, they double-down with a lack of intestinal fortitude. It’s a soft team, a word you never want to be associated with in football.
At 2-5, with a makeshift offensive line and QB Dak Prescott out for the year, a turnaround doesn’t look good. Although the team looks like they’ve thrown in the towel (figuratively), Jerry and Stephen Jones remain like Rocky Balboa in Rocky IV, watching the their fighter get beaten to a pulp, but refuse to throw in the towel.
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan on if the team has progressed: “I just think you’re gonna take your lumps with a new staff.” Mentioned injuries and an unusual offseason with a new coaching staff. “I think we’re going in the right direction.”

That’s their optimistic outlook and it’s everlasting. However, for fans, it certainly feels like the Cowboys won’t be making the playoffs and it’s time to look ahead. What can the organization do now to move on to get better in the future?
The plan needs to be changed. The team needs to take a hard look in the mirror and realize they need prepare for a better 2021 and beyond. Here’s what they can do.
