The Dallas Cowboys have one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the NFL heading into the 2019. By addressing most of their needs this off-season, the Cowboys are ready to take their best shot at a Super Bowl, even if their window lasts one year.

Heading into 2018 Dallas had the third-youngest team in the league, with an average age of 25.4 years old. That number will be elevated with the return of Jason Witten (37 at start of the season), and the additions of Robert Quinn (29), Randall Cobb (29), George Iloka (29) and Kerry Hyder (28). The organization has done a great job of getting younger, but they brought in veterans to augment the puzzle, normally a sign of a team going for it all.

It’s not a bad thing to add some veterans to lead a younger team, but every free agent acquisition the Cowboys brought in so far has been on a one-year deal. Couple that with head coach Jason Garrett fighting for his job on the last year of his contract and it’s easy to see these Cowboys are all-in to win it in 2019.

The Cowboys had to feel this was right time to be aggressive and made an unusual off-season move by trading for an expensive big name player in Quinn. Also, by adding solid players at positions they were weakest at, like tight end, wide receiver and the defensive line, the team covered themselves from making a reach pick in the draft.

Usually the Cowboys accomplish this by adding role players, but this off-season they brought in guys capable of making a difference at their respective positions.

However, they didn’t overextend on any of those free agents, securing their future money for the young talented players on the roster, starting with DeMarcus Lawrence, and will likely include Amari Cooper and Dak Prescott. Those are franchise building players, but the Cowboys bought themselves a year to go for it without mortgaging their future.

In the draft, the team took Trysten Hill, who could have just one-year to prove his worth. Hill’s got talent, but reports of him being difficult to work with makes drafting him a bit of a gamble. The selection of Hill came with a stamp of approval to work hard under Rod Marinelli, and Kris Richard pushed for Hill as well.

What happens if the Cowboys struggle and the coaching staff get fired before next season?

What happens if the coaches who vouched for a player are no longer on the staff?

If Garrett gets fired for a poor season in 2019, it’s unlikely the men he hired as defensive coaches will stick around. Then you’re best case scenario for drafting Hill could go by the wayside.

None of this means the Cowboys aren’t building for future years, but they loaded up for the upcoming season. It feels like the team sees a window of opportunity to win big in 2019. The Cowboys operated this off-season with an all-in mentality, it just feels different than in years past.

That’s the point, though, right? To maximize your chances of winning the Super Bowl every year. The Cowboys have put their best foot forward for 2019, and it could pay off.
