After agreeing to a new deal last week to remain with the Dallas Cowboys, wide receiver Tavon Austin officially inked his contract Wednesday. The numbers show a team-friendly pact that presumably gives the front office more funds to use elsewhere.
A month ago, the CowboysWire 2019 Manifesto theorized a one-year, $2 million contract for the six-year veteran out of West Virginia. If he meets all of his incentive benchmarks, Austin will make $2 million.
Here is a breakdown of Tavon Austin’s one-year deal with the Cowboys:
Base salary: $1 million ($500,000 guaranteed).
46-man roster bonuses: $750,000.
45 receptions, plus playoffs: $250,000.
Cap number: $1.328 million.

Austin, a 2013 first-round pick by the St. Louis Rams, missed nine games in 2018, his first year as a Cowboy. In his seven games of work, Austin caught eight balls for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns. But the versatile speedster also posted six rushes for 55 yards, an attractive 9.2-yard average. He also had a big punt return in the playoff win against Seattle after having a prior return TD called back for a questionable penalty.
The team sees Austin as a Swiss Army knife-type player who, when healthy and in an imaginative offensive gameplan, could be an effective change-of-pace weapon, not to mention his skills in the return game.
