The NFC East was front and center as the 2020 NFL Draft took off on Thursday night. After Joe Burrow went to the Bengals, back-to-back selections made their way into the Dallas Cowboys’ backyard.

First, Washington selected lifelong Cowboys’ hater Chase Young. With the third pick, Joe Judge and his new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett selected a tackle to help protect their franchise quarterback Daniel Jones and block for their star runner Saquon Barkley. Georgia’s Andrew Thomas is the newest member of Big Blue.

Thomas was one of the four top offensive tackles in this year’s draft. It was widely thought New York was going to pick from the position, but there was moderate surprise it was him instead of Alabama’s Jedrick Wills or Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs.

If it feels familiar for Garrett to be associated with a first-round left tackle, that’s because his first order of business in complete control in Dallas (not that he has it in New York) was to select Tyron Smith. Now, he has Thomas.

Jason Garrett's first 1st was Tyron Smith, a LT with 36" arms. Today in his first draft as NY's OC, the Giants get him Andrew Thomas, another LT with 36" wings.

Garrett was hired as New York’s offensive coordinator after not having his contract renewed following nine and a half years as Cowboys head coach.

The move to Thomas will shift 2018 free-agent bust Nate Solder over to the right side, where DeMarcus Lawrence will get to torment him twice this season before he eventually gets released from the Big Apple.
