During the 2018 season, tight end Geoff Swaim was expected to have a big role in the Dallas Cowboys offense due to Jason Witten retiring. That didn’t exactly come to fruition as Swaim averaged less than three receptions a contest before sustaining a wrist injury that sidelined him after nine games.

The University of Texas alum was a free agent after being drafted in 2015’s seventh round and now will be joining forces former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles in Jacksonville after signing a deal with the Jaguars.

In his nine games in 2018 Swaim recorded one touchdown on 242 receiving yards.

The main reason Dallas decided to let Swaim walk was due to the emergence of Blake Jarwin. Jarwin helped soothe this decision for the Cowboys after showing flashes of being a starting caliber tight end.

Jarwin had the biggest game of his career when the Cowboys beat the New York Giants, 36-35. His Week 17 breakout performance earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week after securing three touchdowns and recording 119 receiving yards on seven receptions.

The Cowboys have already signed two tight ends this offseason. Former Rams camp body Codey McElroy and future Hall of Famer Jason Witten. Witten decided to come out of retirement to play another year with the Cowboys after using all of 2018 working as a color commentator on ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcasts.

The tight ends on the Cowboys roster are Witten, Jarwin, Dalton Schultz, Rico Gathers and McElroy.
