The Dallas Cowboys are doing their due diligence on Louisiana Tech defensive lineman Jaylon Ferguson. Former Cowboys VP of player personnel and current NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt reported the Cowboys defensive line coaches were among team’s in attendance for Ferguson’s Pro Day this week.

Despite everyone’s serious concerns on Ferguson’s agility scores, Brandt noted the scouts said he had a good workout based on actual football activities. Ferguson was uninvited from the combine due to a legal situation when he was a freshman, so this was the first time teams had a chance to watch him in a controlled setting.

DL coaches from the Eagles, Cowboys, Dolphins, Vikings and Lions attended @LATechFB's pro day to see a player who was uninvited to the combine. Edge rusher Jaylon Ferguson (6-5, 271) had a good workout, according to scouts there.

Ferguson is already on Dallas’ radar as he is one of the leaked names reported to be one of their 30 pre-draft national visits allowed by the NFL. The major concern to note is that Ferguson had a time of 8.08 in the three-cone drill which is woefully bad. It took him multiple attempts to get through the drill without slipping, that is where the flexibility concerns come in.

So, yeah a bad time for sure…but he was just trying to get through a rep without falling… idk if anyone would want to stick with times from reps 7,8,9 etc… pic.twitter.com/a9ZSIfCGZv

His agility has led some to wonder if he might best fit as an interior pass-rush specialist.

During Ferguson’s four-year stint at LA Tech he recorded an NCAA-record 45 sacks and 67.5 tackles for loss. His best year by far came during his senior year where he had 17.5 sacks.

The Cowboys have a need at the defensive end position with the indefinite suspension being slapped on Randy Gregory, Taco Charlton had shoulder surgery in January, the NFL is investigating Tyrone Crawford’s bar incident and could have a suspension looming and the worry on how DeMarcus Lawrence will react to being franchise tagged again.

Ferguson could be an option for the Cowboys if he is still sitting there in the second-round of the NFL Draft.
