It’s April which means the NFL Draft is inching closer and closer. The first-round of the draft begins on Thursday April 25, but for now the Dallas Cowboys do not have a pick to make on that day. Without a trade up, they will first select on Friday during the second round.

Fortunately mock drafts are starting to stretch out, giving an indication of who some feel will be available. ESPN’s Mel Kiper and Todd McShay created their annual two-round mock this week.

McShay’s choice, safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, is among one of Dallas’ 30 visitors, while Kiper’s choice in defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones is not. Safety is still a need the Cowboys will look to address during the draft despite signing safety George Illoka to a one-year deal.

During Garder-Johnson’s time at Florida he recorded nine interceptions, four of which came during his final year with the Gators. He also was able to get into the endzone with three defensive touchdowns during his three-year stint at Florida.

If the Cowboys elect to go defensive tackle in the second-round then that would help fill a need right away. One can never have too many defensive lineman for defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli to coach.

The former Buckeye Dre’Mont Jones played three years at Ohio State. During his time he contributed 22 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks to one of the best teams in the Big Ten.

During the NFL Combine in Indianapolis Jones may have seen his draft stock drop. He ran a 5.13 40 yard dash and a 7.71 3-cone drill.
