The second wave of free agency is officially here for the Dallas Cowboys. The warning signal had been blasted with the Monday signing of DE Kerry Hyder, and visit of WR Randall Cobb. Now the Cowboys are in full recruiting mode. On Tuesday they secured Cobb with a 1-year $5 million deal, and they gave their best sales pitches to three new visitors; Robert Quinn, Eric Berry and Malik McDowell.

Cowboys Wire has info on those visits as well as a fresh mock draft, Dez Bryant and Tyrone Crawford updates covered in today’s News & Notes.

Randall Cobb, Cowboys agree to deal bringing former Packers WR to Dallas | Cowboys Wire

The big splash of the day. The Cowboys have effectively replaced Cole Beasley, adding Randall Cobb to fill their void in the slot. Cobb, the now former Packer, has faced numerous injuries limiting his time on the field, but when he plays he’s effective. Cobb has averaged 52 YPG throughout his 8-year career, in addition to hauling in 41 TD’s. If Cobb can stay healthy the Cowboys may have struck green and gold…err…gold, just gold.

WR coach Sanjay Lal called his meeting with Cobb “off the charts,”” that he “still has a lot to prove.”

How do the Cowboys feel about newest WR Randall Cobb? Coach Sanjay Lal tells me “He’s an excellent pickup. My meeting with him was off the charts good. Very smart, still wants to improve, has a lot to prove after last year’s injury riddled season. “ pic.twitter.com/SfSAOIgcjf

Cobb took to Twitter following the announcement, and allowed Woody to do the talking for him. He’s ready.

Fun Cobb fact: He’s a lefty, just like Dez Bryant. Could we see a WR sweep toss to Jason Witten find it’s way back into the playbook?

DE Robert Quinn visiting Cowboys Tuesday despite not being a FA yet | Cowboys Wire

Robert Quinn is still under contract with the Miami Dolphins, but the DE was at The Star on reportedly meeting with Kris Richard, Rod Marinelli and Will McClay. The Cowboys and Dolphins are in trade negotiations that would bring Quinn to Dallas. Quinn will need to okay the trade before it takes place and will be looking for a contract extension, his current deal expires after 2019.

Quinn primarily plays RDE, the position that is open for the time being as Randy Gregory is again indefinitely suspended. If the Cowboys can lock up both Quinn and fellow Tuesday visitor Malik McDowell, combined with their recent DL additions of Christian Covington and Kerry Hyder, they will have rebuilt a stable base on the defensive line. Though Quinn has left The Star for the day, the latest report from Mike Fisher of 247 Sports indicated that a deal is still cooking.

As @1053thefan reported earlier, S Eric Berry left #Cowboys HQ w/o a deal; onto other visits. DE Robert Quinn has also departed (to visit #Saints ?) but source tells us Dallas / #Dolphins trade talks remain ‘serious.’

As Fisher points out, Berry also left without a deal in place. Berry however has played for one team, the Chiefs, his entire career and it would make sense that he’d want to take his time before choosing his next destination. The Cowboys also have a habit of signing players after they’ve left their visits. They did it with Allen Hurns in 2018, and now Randall Cobb in 2019. Berry may yet be a Cowboy.

2019 NFL mock draft: 4-round projections after 1st wave of free agency | Draft Wire

Draft Wire has put together a 4-round mock draft, conducted before the Cowboys signed Randall Cobb. That said, the Cowboys front office isn’t afraid to draft the best player available and the handful of undecided visitors may well find themselves in silver and blue along with Cobb, Kerry Hyder and Christian Covington.

With the 27th pick the Oakland Raiders selected Deandre Baker, CB, Georgia. That of course was the Cowboys selection traded away for WR Amari Cooper.

As for Round 2 through Round 4:

58. Dallas Cowboys | Charles Omenihu | DL | Texas

90. Dallas Cowboys | Jaquan Johnson | S | Miami (FL)

128. Dallas Cowboys | Bobby Evans | OT | Oklahoma

136. (Comp pick) Dallas Cowboys | Mecole Hardman | WR | Georgia

The Cowboys have done pretty well in the area around pick 136. Dak Prescott was No. 135 overall in 2016, also a comp pick.

Dez Bryant ready to light it up this year | Twitter

Dez Bryant has lost no love for the Cowboys or owner and general manager Jerry Jones. The two were spotted together at the Spence-Garcia boxing match at AT&T Stadium over the weekend. Bryant even posted a video clip of he, Jones and and Byron Jones on Sunday.

If there were any doubt as to whether-or-not Bryant plans to play in 2019, he silenced it. The Saints are thought to be interested in bringing back Bryant this year, though the UFA is free to look elsewhere. A reunion with the Cowboys is far-fetched, but hey, never say never. Cough…Jason Witten…cough.

I wish people could hear the roar in my voice as I write this…. I’m going to light some **** up this year I’m excited!!!!!!! https://t.co/LL8PxmDV2M

Cowboys bring back long snapper for 15th year | Cowboys Wire

There will come a day that this Cowboy rides away. Today is not that day. Long-snapper L.P. Ladouceur is back back for year 15 with the Cowboys. He ties the mark for second longest tenured Cowboy, alongside Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Mark Tuinei and Bill Bates. Only Jason Witten has him beat, as he enters year 16, (with a short intermission of course.)

Ladouceur signed for a one year $1.03 million contract, with $90,000 in bonus money. He will once again qualify for the veteran minimum salary benefit, which allows teams to pay a higher wage but only get charged on the cap a minimum charge for someone with less experience. For a veteran with 10 or more years, the miminum is $1.03 million, but Dallas will only get charged as if Ladouceur has just three to four years of experience.

Fun Ladouceur fact: He’ll make more than Dan Bailey this year. The Cowboys took a lot of heat after the surprise cut of Dan Bailey in 2018. Bailey himself also signed a new deal with the Vikings on Tuesday, 1-year for $1 million. Ladouceur’s deal is 1-year for $1.03 million with a $90,000 signing bonus.
