One of the more polarizing Dallas Cowboys players with a lot to prove, Taco Charlton has been dealing with a few health issues recently. After shoulder surgery in late January to repair a labrum issue he struggled with through the season, Charlton went back under the knife recently.

Well, not exactly under the knife but the third-year defensive end did recently have a scope done on his ankle. He is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

Cowboys source said Taco Charlton had a scope on his ankle. Source told @TheAthleticDFW it’s not considered a big deal.

The former first-round pick appeared in 11 games in 2018, starting seven, but went M.I.A. down the stretch. The injuries piled up for Charlton during the year, in what was a disappointing sophomore season for the former Wolverine. He recorded just a single sack all season, and at multiple points was relegated to what was labeled as a healthy scratch.

Given the firebomb approach the team has taken to adding defensive linemen this offseason, and the big-time expected roles for players like DE Robert Quinn and DT Trysten Hill, Charlton seems to be facing an uphill battle to turn his career trajectory around. Pass rush prospects typically have the biggest development curve, but Year 3 seems to truly be a make-it or break-it year for Charlton.

At least he’ll ideally be at full strength for the challenges of what comes next.
