Yesterday morning it started to snow a little bit here in Anchorage. It wasn't much snow mind you, only about 2-3 inches accumulation across the city.

We broke a single day state record yesterday. Not for the snow but for traffic accidents because of the snow.

From yesterday morning at midnight until 9pm lastnight. We had 146 traffic accidents.

In a city as small as Anchorage (about 200k) that is a huge amount of traffic accidents.

It just boggles me how people zip around in this stuff going fast. I am a very offensive driver ( and sometimes poster :) ) but I tend to start paying more attention when my car just won't stop sliding. I then slow down a smidge.

I hope you enjoyed this totally useless trivia Monday.

God Bless our Troops and Vets of this fine nation.

2 - 3 inches would shut us down here. I think the people here speed up when snow starts falling thinking that they can get home before too much falls.

That reminds me. You still thinking about moving down here?

Some friends of mine just got relocated to S. TX, and their 2 year old, 3 BR, custom built house is up for sale.

The kicker, it's on Longhorn Lane, in a new subdivision in Forney TX.

You'd be very happy there, I'm sure.

Yeah - I am still interested in moving back to Texas. I don't know about Longhorn Land. Wow - my family would never come see me EVER.

Most of my job offers are coming from Austin lately. I don't know about living there. I really want to get back into the DFW area.

Thanks for the update tho Tn1.

Walrus zone? LOL - where do you get this stuff? hahaha

We don't want you.

Just kidding. It is a great place to live without that big, big city feel of Dallas or Houston.

I never get as frustrated as when it snows/ices in Texas.

One year I went on a rant about TX drivers in the ice. Despite the fact that we have advanced so far technologically and intellectually over the centuries, throw a little ice on the road, and Texans revert back to cro-magnon man instincts and drive like complete and utter morons.

This rant was the effect of seeing people driving 50 mph on iced surface streets and seeing a guy floor the accelerator when the light turned green at an intersection.

i went to college in a really cold part of new york where you can literally tell your kids you walked uphill BOTH ways in 5 inches of snow for over a miles (it usually takes me about 30-40 minutes to walk to classes) for a good chunk of the school year (sometimes, as early as sept, as late as mother's day there'll be snow on the ground). there, classes NEVER get canceled (probably not since the 80's) even if there is a ton of snow falling, because the ice trucks/plows are pretty efficient.

now I live in TN for grad school, and the weather is beautiful. i love it. it's cold, but then I remember the frigid cold I use to get subjected to, and I feel so much better. also, i know that if there is snow, everyone freaks out, and the school shuts down. I haven't had a snow day since high school, and am looking forward to them :p:
