Years ago I was part of a forum that you could see who was viewing a thread at the bottom of the page.
Its just a suggestion that may not be possible now but, it helped to finish conversations. If the viewer you were engaged with was viewing, you might stick around a little longer.
It was just a nice feature.
It was very helpful in the Mod forum if you were discussing something that needed immediate attention.
It might be helpful there if nothing else.
