USMC Silent Drill Team

I always wonder how many people sitting there in person really understand how amazing that is? So many in our country are clueless.

Maybe one in four and that's pushing it.

Some of the comments are pretty funny:

"That doesn't look that hard."

"Dude, I'd be shocked if you could even hold an M1A1 that long without getting winded."

Well I have a clue I did the army drill team stuff in Highschool did jrotc I seen the old guard block much like that in person over 6 times.

Heck can you imagine in Highschool being that level and having to perform right after they do. Yep I had to do that the Old Guard (3rd Infantry) performed their routine for half time show and we where the 1st team up after them.

Also to note if you guys did not know

The Marine Drill team uses M1 Garand
Th Army drill Team uses the M1903A3

Of course. Marines always go for the better weapon when they can.

San Antonio is where the competition was I saw the Army Old Guard perform 3 times there and had to go on right after them one year. I have no idea if they still do but San Antonio has one of the largest meets in Texas at the Fiesta meet you are competing against 100+ of teams from around the state all JROTC's. Thats all cool we took 1st Place Inspection one year at that meet (getting a top 3 trophy in any event is hard). I also placed top 15 in individual drill.

The other large meet was at Galveston ball Highschool another meet with teams numbering 100+. I placed 11 in that meet in individual drill (We rotated who got to do it what years)

(86-90 time frame)

Yes I can to this day still do some of the spins and throws with those weapons

I didn't know that. Thanks. We drilled with the M14 when I was in the Marines in 68-70. It's heavy but I guess you just got used to it. That brought back some memories. They drilled us so much I can still call cadence/drill after all these years.

We drilled with wooden rifles in grade school,M-1's in high school, and 03's in College. I preferred the M-1's.
