That Meadowlands "Jump" video pisses me off for another reason: SING THE SONG EXACTLY LIKE WE HEARD IT ON THE ALBUM. Don't "update" it or put your own cute little modern spin on it. Sing it as it was originally recorded.

Agree. I saw Van Halen in 1980 and it was amazing. I eventually warmed up to Hagar, and they had some good songs with him, too.

I read the biography about the band a couple of years ago, and I think Eddie, with his moodiness and alcoholism, is almost impossible to deal with over the long haul. Only his brother can handle that. Anyway, I'm curious to hear what they record, but I doubt they can all survive another long tour together. It's just a matter of time before Ed and Dave lock horns again.

I know it makes me satan or whatever but I prefer van hagar.

Love all the other stuff to though obviously.

If they put out a new album I will buy it. I hated that vhIII nonsense though.

I liked Van Halen with Sammy as Well...Won't say better but Liked it a good deal with the exception of the OU812 outing.

However 5150 had some killer stuff on it.

I wonder how much input Dave will have the the music selected on the new CD. He and Producter Templemen (sp?) was way too much into cover tunes. Don't get me wrong, Van Halen was one of the better bands at cover tunes. But the number of cover tunes was one thing that was a sore spot or point of argument within the band. Van Halen did not need to do the amount of cover tunes they were doing.

Another thing that people may or may not know. The last time it was rumored they were getting back together and They showed up on stage together (at the mtv awards) Dave was acting all goofy and stuff and you seen the rest of the band laughing but still with a weird look about them. Turns out dave told the band that that night (on the show) was about him not Van Halen...whatever that meant.

Of course Eddie is a jerk as well as he has contradicted himself in telling stories of David and Sammy leaving the band, quitting the band or being fired from the band depending on when he was telling the story.

Just don't see it lasting long. Again I imagine a recording gets done and they won't tour, or tour a few shows and break up again.

I will look forward to hearing the music though. I hope it has that hard edge to it and not some creampuff outing like OU812.

Yeah Dave's not the frontman you want to see live if you want it the way the cd is. Drives me nuts too.

Yeah that whole deal from that 96 awards show was wierd, eddie got mad because roth interrupted someone elses speech or whatever...

Eddie seems like an impossible guy.

I have never had the opportunity to see them live because something always came up through the years, but I would love to.

I think they made it through the last tour ok and that is probably all they needed to give them some momentum.

Being honest though, I dont want to see them with roth. I want to see them with sammy and michael. For Unlawful Is one of my favorite albums, I listen to some portion of it at least once every couple days. I still cant get enough of it!!

as far as 5150, I know the hard core van halen vans from the 70s hate that album, but for me being 33 and actually going and buying that tape as a kid and watching the videos and then getting live without a net...I love everything about it. My teen years were spent doing stuff at my house or my friends house and every summer 5150 was playing on a radio at somepoint daily!!!

ou812 wasnt as good, but I love feels so good! Still like the whole album.

The only vh album I dont like is VHIII. I just didnt get it. I hate eddie with that peavey and short hair!

THis is the Van Halen I want to see...though I know I never will. I still have two tickets in my for unlawful cd case of the two shows that rolled through syracuse and albany I had tickets to in 93 and then because of baseball games couldnt go!!

I know what you mean. The songs on Van Halen II (DOA, Bottoms Up, Beautiful Girls, Feel Your Love Tonight, etc.) all remind me of driving around with my friends on Saturday night when I was in high school.

I saw them with Sammy twice, and they were incredible both times. Saw them once with Gary Cherone and it was a very good concert, despite the fact that it was Gary Cherone. I didn't go on the last tour because I didn't like the idea of Wolfy instead of Michael....however, after seeing all the live vids on youtube, I will probably go check them out for the new album. That being said, I'm not sure Eddie is the same guitarist he was. Don't get me wrong, he's still incredible, but he was so incredibly clean in the past.....lately he seems to be missing quite a few notes. It happens, but it saddens me.

5150, OU812, For Unlawful & Balance are great rock albums. To me, David is still my favorite front man for the band, but Sammy did a great job.

The live version with Hagar singing this song is good, too. That one, and Jamie's Cryin' were my favorites on the first album.

Growing up, VH was easily my favorite band. Like some others in this thread though, I prefer the VH with Hagar over Roth. Dave may have been a great showman but Sammy is far and away the better musician and singer IMHO. For the record, my favorite VH album is "Balance". I was also a big Hagar fan when he was solo as well. Best concert I ever saw live was in Charlotte in late 84 (I can't drive 55 tour). Krokus opened up and then Hagar came on stage and just wouldn't stop playing. He played every song from his "Standing Hampton", "Three Lock Box" and "VOA" albums plus alot of his earlier stuff and a few songs from his Montrose days.

Also, does anyone else remember the HSAS tour with Sammy Hage, Neal Schon, Kenny Aaronson & Michael Shrieve? I was always dissappointed they only did one tour together.

I remember when 51/50 came out how torn a lot of my friends were. We used to argue religiously about weather VHII or 1984 was the better album, then they went to Sammy. I was fine with it because I liked Hagar as a solo artist ("I Can't Drive 55" was an awesome jam) and DLR was coming out with his first solo effort. I thought 51/50 was awesome, some of my friends didn't.

I agree with Theebs that For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was an unbelievable effort. I think I was a lucky guy to get to experience both Roth and Hagar as their frontmen. Godd tunes from both.

Most underated Van Halen album?
For my money it's "Women and Children First"

  1. And the Cradle Will Rock..." – 3:31
  2. "Everybody Wants Some!!" – 5:05
  3. "Fools" – 5:55
  4. "Romeo Delight" – 4:19
  5. "Tora! Tora!" – 0:57
  6. "Loss of Control" – 2:36
  7. "Take Your Whiskey Home" – 3:09
  8. "Could This Be Magic?" – 3:08
  9. "In a Simple Rhyme" – 4:33 (Hidden track "Growth" begins at 4:19)
Notice, no cover tunes :)
Also, there was a 10 year stretch where I thought guys who had this on their jeeps were Van Halen fans. :D
