Vander Esch DROY

If Leonard gets the nod, it's probably because of his sack numbers. LVE doesn't get those pass rushing opportunities. But don't discount the impact of this signature performance against the high powered Saints offense in a prime time game. It's the kind of performance that sticks in a voters mind.

It’s more than sacks. Leonard has racked up the following stat line in 10 games:

114 tackles
6 sacks
3 passes defenses
1 INT
4 forced fumbles

That's pretty insane, and with plenty of games remaiing.

He has more tackles than Vander Esch and is not far behind Bradly Chubb in sacks. 4 forced fumbles and a pick too. wow

Chargers fans think Derwin James is the best, but hard to argue with some of the others too. Awfully hard for a safety to win it without multiple pick 6s

For sure. I think LVE is making his case but someone tried to claim a week or two ago that it was LVE's award to lose and that it "wasn't even close."

If it comes down to a Cowboy versus a player from any other team, you can take it to the bank that the other guy will win.

Shades of Eugene "the hitting machine" Lockhart. Sky is the limit LVE.

Good night nurse. Lockhart was such an average LB (a la Bradie James).

Lockhart was a decent player on an awful team. Someone had to make plays and he did.

Took Jimmy a millisecond to get rid of Eugene.

LVE is a stud.

He had the Cowboy record for tackles in a season if I recall?

Found this:

Lockhart played for a lot of bad Cowboys teams, which cost him his share of post-season accolades. The notable exception happened in the 1-15 1989 season, when he he led the NFL and set a club record with 222 tackles, while also leading the team in interceptions (2) and the linebackers in passes deflected (8). He also set club records with 154 solo tackles, 16 double-digit tackle games, earning an All-Pro nod. Lockhart's punishing style of play earned him the apt moniker "the hitting machine."

I call that pretty good. Has anyone surpassed 222 tackles for Dallas yet? 154 solo tackles?

This is one hell of a defensive rookie class.

Chubb, James, LVE and Leonard have been exceptional.

Then guys like Fitzpatrick have played well, but haven't put up the ints, and he's playing slot and boundary corner when he IMO is best suited at FS.

Roquan Smith has played well too.

I would still say Leonard has the edge over him. He was active versus the Dolphins from what I saw and is playing a big part in their D too.

Did you actually watch the guy play, or are you just quoting stats?

Again, he was A V E R A G E and slow.

If he was all that, why on earth would Jimmy Johnson work so hard to replace him? Would Jimmy replace Singletary or Urlacher or any other great player?

Yeah I watched him play. Anyone who racks up 222 tackles is damn good. Perhaps he was already aging when Jimmy came along? Regardless, if you have an issue with a former Cowboys LB who made the pro bowl and all NFL team, than the issue is yours not mine.

I think LvE will get it.

He's a bigger name and plays for a bigger team. A lot of hype behind him and that usually makes a difference in people's minds, right or wrong.

Hard not to give the nod to the player with those stats. He would have to regress or get injured and LVE would have to keep rolling and make some type of spectacular play on national tv.

I assume you’re a big fan of Paul Palmer as well? He led the vaunted 1989 team in rushing.

Come on man.

LVE doesn’t have tackle stats that come close to Lockhart’s and he’s already a better player in his rookie season than Eugene ever was.

They're both beasts. This was a great LB class, might be on par with the 2012 class that had Kuechly, Wagner, Hightower, Lavonte David, Burfict.
