Vanilla

The problem is the OL. They decided as a unit not to show up last night leaving Jason Garrett completely hosed.

Tried runs. On the plays where they weren't getting blown up outright there was no push. RBs had to do it all themselves.

On passing downs Gurode, Davis, and Columbo just got manhandled. Free and Kosier were just OK. Exhaustion can't explain all of it. The OL is getting old all at once, and that's on team management.

Garrett will have to adjust his schemes, but because of the OL ineptness and not because he can't call plays.

Think end-of-2006 kind of reigning in. It's going to be an ugly, hit or miss season with not much consistency. 10-6 at best with this OL and schedule.

No chance to beat Green Bay and Minnesota, each of whom has young, strong OLs and DLs.

What is out there that was worth picking up? In the draft we clearly picked the best player available with our first 3 picks. Free agency their was no one worth considering. Flozell was probably the best available and we let him go. Jamaal Brown at the time was injured (well still is) and would command a lot of money. Gaither purposely lost weight to force the Ravens to play him at left tackle, do you want that type of player? do we trade and pay mankins ot type money?

I don't think you can place blame on management, their wasn't nothing out there worth going for and breaking the bank on it.

Was Tony Romo out there? Is the possibility of Romo getting injured significantly greater while playing in the exhibition, or standing on the sidelines, hat crooked to the side of his choice, checking out the ladies? If the games don't "matter" for any reason whatsoever, then what must you think of our stellar coaching staff?

Preseason games matter. I think you'd have to be an idiot to think otherwise.

If Romo is in the game, it matters (Ware and so forth for that matter as well). If "vanilla" is the issue, they need to consider putting in a little chocolate. Or get a new OL.....

They matter in terms of getting in work for the players and evaluating, if they did matter allot we would not be putting in 2nd and 3rd string players. Execution stunk last night and they need to correct it but in the big picture Pre Season games are not much different than a glorified practice.

If your strategy is such that they are allowing your QB to get battered in a meaningless game, you need to do something different or get him off the field. Being "vanilla" isn't going to matter much one way or the other if Romo gets hurt.

The point of many is that it's poor play and not "vanilla" that is the issue. Personally, I don't think that really matters at this stage. It's not like they have new wrinkles that the rest of the league hasn't seen, nor that all of these guys suddenly can't play. Whatever the real issue is, the game matters a whole lot when Romo is on the field, and it's laughable to use the excuse "vanilla" when he's getting punished out there. Evaluating, playing it close to the vest, working on something, etc all takes a backseat to doing whatever is necessary to protect Romo. They're practically begging for him to get hurt the way things were going last night.

Romo can blame himself for two of the sacks.... You can't hold the ball as long as he did two of those times and not expect to get hit.... If noone is open get rid of the football, don't sit in the pocket for 5 seconds and just hold the ball. No OL can hold up that long....

Like chocolate, even VANILLA,
Chocolate, Strawberry, Sarsaparilla
Flavors are electric, try me, get a shocker
Didn't I tell you to leave Flavor Flav alone Knocker?

Forget Vanilla. Our O has looked realy really crappy. Line play is weak.

Three sacks to the raiders on the opening drive? That is your starters folks. You can't tell me it deosn't matter. You play to win the game.

Even preseason games. Even if you are only playing two series.

Defense? No comment. Those boys look solid, deep, hungry and prideful. And they are playing like it even though they know they are only playing 10 mins of the game.

Offense always takes longer to getready and is traditionally behind the D when it some to knocking off the rust.

BUT

Its the same guys except Free. And what I see is the same guys doing the same thing they struggled with last year. Free is the bright spot IMO.

I am PO'd.

LINE UP AND KNOCK THE GUY IN FRONT OF YOU BACKWARDS AND DO NOT STOP UNTIL YOU PANCAKE HIM OR HIS BACK HITS THE GOALPOST.

No 2nd TE. Great! Even a better chance of beefing up the line with a OT and knocking somebody off the ball.

Man Up Garrett. Call plays that get our OL moving in the right direction.

Man up OL. Use your size and srength and bust them in the chops.

Man up Romo. Take the reigns and lead. Smack them boys in the earhole when you get crushed b/c they miss blocks.

Barber? Felix? Lets go. Earn your checks and prove to us why you are hyped.

Roy. Do something. I don't know what your deal is but it better get fixed.

---------

Choice, Austin, Crayton and Hurd are my starters this week. Roy, Felix and Barber need a message.

Unintentionally funny, but flat out is.

I agree it was a bad outing regardless if it was pre season or not. What makes it so called vanilla is the fact we are not putting in plays to beat the Raiders we are putting in plays to evaluate players and to work on different things.

Vanilla is just part of the preseason. Expecially the early preseason. It's hard to get to detailed until we know who is on the team and have them play together more.

Vanilla be damned! It's not too late. There is time for the team to turn this around.

We can finish the preseason with three straight wins, get to the CFL playoffs and beat Spain in the FIFA World Cup final.

Let's all say it together: We-Can-Do-This!

To heck with that. I say we change the name to "DezBryantCowboys.com". We may lose one member out of thousands, but you cannot make an omelet without cracking open a few eggs.

Preseason is no indication of how the season is going to unfold. As great as the defense looks, who knows? They could lay an egg this season and the offense could be lighting up the scoreboards with 30 points a game.

It's great for knocking off the rust, getting guys acclimated, and seeing how guys perform using basic plays. Ever since 2007 when our preseason was quite frankly atrocious and went on to go 13-3, and then in 2008 when I thought they performed remarkably well, going into 9-7 (yes, I know Romo was hurt, but looking at the bigger picture of that season is what I'm talking about), I don't really care too much about preseason.

Unfortunately, that's about right.

I don't see what a problem with vanilla is, heck it mixes with a lot of dishes and mellows them out...just smack some (wafers) down on a pan, slice and layer some banana, and then top with vanilla pudding and whipped cream! Heat just slighty until top is golden brown and cut into it!!:)

I think it would be hilarious if there was a member-specific forum on the site called the "Overreaction Zone" where it was a no-holds barred, no censorship, all-out frenzy for the fans that are foaming at the mouth after a preseason game.
