Various Cowboy thoughts this Christmas

I send Christmas greetings to all who follow the silver and blue star. Christmas greetings to those not wise enough to do so also. I apologize for not writing post game reports after the last two games. This time of year gets so busy. I will reflect on the Cowboys the past two games.
First of all, congratulations to the Cowboys for clinching home field advantage throughout the playoffs. It has been 12 years since we fans can lay claim to that. The team took quite a rocky turnover during that time.
It is very important that Dallas gets to the NFC Championship game this season. In each decade of Dallas’ existence, the Cowboys have participated in at least two Championship games. Going one and done this season will put all the pressure on the final two seasons to accomplish this streak. I sure would like to keep that going. With the Cowboys getting a two to possibly three-week rest, there is really no excuse for Dallas to be hosting the NFC Championship game.
Dallas’ loss to Philly was irritating to say the least. Despite the defense putting forth a solid effort, the Cowboy offense was truly pathetic. Dallas’ offense sputtered against the Panthers as well, especially without Owens. I believe that Jason Garrett’s coaching value is on the line for this final weeks game in the Nation’s Capital. Let’s see how he does without his top-receiving weapon in that hostile environment when the archrivals have everything to play for, and Dallas not so much. If the Cowboys put up a 30 spot on the Commanders this Sunday, then I believe Garrett’s value jumps tremendously.
Losing Owens is a disappointment, but now Dallas will get to truly see what they have in Hurd and Austin. The play of Hurd and Austin will decide how high a priority drafting a wide receiver will be this off-season.
Of all the people that Jerry needs to keep in my opinion, will be Jeff Ireland. The last five years have really been a blessing for the Cowboys. The scouting staff has amassed a plethora of quality talent beyond the second round of the drafts. We don’t need a roll call at this time, as most of you already know the names. The bottom line is, for this franchise to keep contending for the brass ring every year, hitting in the latter rounds like Dallas has the last five years is paramount for sustained superior performance. That is what Parcells and Ireland have brought to this franchise.
On this 2007 Christmas day, along with getting Sirius Satellite Radio, and a Cowboys light-switch cover (wall mounted), my final Christmas wish is for Jeff Ireland to stay in Dallas.
