Various Stephen Jones tweets from Combine

I love when our FO just blows any sort of leverage or mystique to our offseason plans. Stephen Jones just killed our leverage in trading away Scandrick. Could have tried to work for a 5th or 6th round pick. Now we are lucky if someone throws us a conditional 7th round pick for him to ensure they get him. Give away our plans that we really want a safety. Can't wait for Seattle to beat us to a trade up from Derwin James now that they know thats our plan. And Nose tackles? Who needs them. Not like we have an injury prone linebacker and a young linebacker still trying to come back from a huge injury that could really use a big ugly to help keep them clean.

Stephen Jones just killed so much excitement i had for the draft this year. Can free agency just get here already so we can sign other teams bench warmers :banghead:

The Jones' really do like to talk a lot and share information. Now, we don't get a lot of exposure in general to other cities, so maybe other GMs tend to be as mouthy as Jerry and Stephen. But I do live in Philly and there is no doubt, the Eagles GM keeps his mouth shut a lot more than the Jones' and when he does talk, it's a boring, bland, vague discussion where he gives up little to nothing.

I believe he can play 3 in a pinch as well.
I get what you're saying, but I don't think they mean they want a 1 tech who can rotate at 3; I think they want a 1tech to have some pass rush ability or some lateral movement to run down plays if they use a first rounder on him. They don't want to have a true nose tackle who only plays in run situations.

Suh might be the high end of what they'd want in a 1tech if they were going to use a first rounder on him.

It's like the old Jim Reeves comment about Jerry Jones from the 90s:

If Jerry Jones were a dog in the painting of the dogs playing poker, Jerry would be the dog with its tail wagging.

I will take a boring bland GM then Jerry and son telling everyone what we are going to do. its infuriating. Especially when I also follow the San Antonio Spurs and they keep their mouth shut about everything. Its why they have been one of the most successful sports franchises of the last 20 years. Hell no one really even knows much of the injury their star player Kawhi Leonard has. If Jerry ran the Spurs he would probably give the media pictures of Leonard's MRI's.

Anything the team says this time of year is carefully calculated.
For most teams yes.

For us? We've leaked our own draft board 3 times and we have a phone conference the day after the draft and tell season ticket holders who would would have drafted had we not made certain trades.

Well hell that's all the proof anyone needs.

The Cowboys are so transparent in who they will draft that our resident draft gurus, including myself, only get a few picks right the last few years and I would hazard to say the majority did not have us picking Taco in the predictions thread last yeary. Some yesy majority no... Which is shocking after reading this thread.

There's a huge divide between 100% predictable and being more transparent than other NFL organizations.

Would you not agree that we are more transparent than most teams?

Arguing that few could predict what the Cowboys would do at pick 28 with 27 uncontrollable variables seems a bit extreme.
