I've reviewed highlights and game footage and will share my thoughts. I'm not an expert, but perhaps this will start some good discussion.
Safety is an interesting position.
Vaccaro is allegedly the top prospect. I see Reid or Cyprien as better fits for Cowboys. Reid is a terrific athlete and has the physical ability to make a lot of plays. I've read that he is inconsistent, not always real instinctive, so that makes him a little risky. I really like what I saw from Cyprien. Some question his ability to be single high safety, but I think he could do that. Looks like he has pretty good instincts. Reid I haven't seen enough of yet, but he looks the part. He could be Ed Reed or he could be a bust, depends on how hard he works at it. I could see either of these guys a trade back option in the 1st or possibly even at 18.
DT
Sheldon Richardson is a perfect 3 tech for this defense and if he is there at 18, I don't see how we could pass him up. He disappears at times but has tremendous quickness and ability to pursue for a DT. Sly from UNC is also a nice looking player and I think would be a decent value at 18, even better value in a trade back. I think he could play 1 or 3 technique. I'm expecting Floyd and Star to be gone. I like Sheldon Richardson better than Star for us, because the 3 tech is critical in this scheme and Richardson is such a good fit for that scheme.
OL
Warmack and Cooper are very different players/body types, but I would be fine with either one. We could do a lot worse than have a plug and play guard at 18. Warmack has such natural strength and is very decisive in blocking. Cooper of course has tremendous quickness for an OG.
We all know that top 3 OT's will be gone early. After that, interesting to see. I think some other guys could get pushed up pretty high. I love Fluker and hate him a little too. He has great natural strength and clearly enjoys contact, and has long arms. But his feet are not great, and the fact is it is a passing league. I don't like him at 18, but would consider him decent value in a trade back late 1st or early 2nd (he probably won't last until then). With Fluker I would take him below Warmack and Cooper because I don't think it is a given that he could slide in and play guard at a high level, although it is possible.
One of the positions that gets pushed up is OT. I could see Menelik Watson getting picked in the first 20 picks. He is raw, but has good feet. I could see him playing tackle right away for us or even sliding in at guard and starting there. It is a projection, but he looks like he has the building blocks to be a good pro, and with the needs there someone will snatch him up. I would probably take him above Fluker, because I think long term he will be a better pass blocker and that is what we need in the NFL game.
