I scrolled down and didn’t see a previous post about this.

But after reading about both of these guys and just now looking at a mock who had them both available when we picked at 19, it made me want to ask. Anyway, who is the better prospect to you guys? and who would fit our scheme better?

Vita Vea or Da’Ron Payne

Vea.

Guys, I know Payne is no slouch but you really need to think critically about this. Vea is quicker, stronger, and has 40 pounds on Payne. He would dominate in this front but he most likely will go to a 3-4 team because he is so much more valuable to them.

I was under the impression that Payne had him beat in short area explosion, which is what you want at DT.

Has the Washington pro day happened? Vea pulled a hamstring during the 40. I'm going by eyes, Vea looks quicker or at least on par with Payne.

I originally wanted the flashy WR pick, but I am now completely with the pick of an interior lineman. I think I would actually still be for that pick even if we do somehow sign Sue.

Explosion. Vea doesn't need to explode. You can't MOVE him. He will just eat up blockers like the cookie monster. And if he decides to explode then both C and G are driven into the QB's lap.

Vea by a mile.

I really have a very hard time believing this guy us going to dominate NFL interior linemen with pure strength. It's just very rarely happens. I'd rather have someone with explosion and a great first step i.e. Aaron Donald.

To each their own though, i can see why some would like him. Just looks like a pure 3-4 NT to me though.

Also, if you read the quoted reply, you'll see why I specifically mentioned that.

Payne, like all Alabama players, dead to me...regardless of my anti-Alabama thoughts,

Vea>>>Settle>>>>>Payne

Payne will be there @ #19, Settle should be there @ #50....Vea likely gone before #19

#19: Hernandez or Wynn (would prefer a mini-trade back to get either of them)
#50: Settle or DJ Moore (if going WR)

In the third preferably... great value pick in the 3round

This is probably what the FO is thinking and will pass on both Vea and Payne at 19.
Of course someone will then grab Settle a few slots before Dallas.
In the end, they’ll take someone in the 6th that will have zero impact on improving this defense and we will be right where we’ve been for the last few years with no pressure coming up the middle.
Give me Vea at #19, then LB/OG with the next two picks.
