Pacman Jones could face midemeanors, felonyESPN.com news services

What the Tennessee Titans decide to do with Adam "Pacman" Jones might be the least of his problems.

Pacman's Choice
Adam "Pacman" Jones has lived two lives -- a brilliant one on the football field and a troubled one off of it. Which will he choose? Greg Garber reports. Story

Police in Las Vegas will recommend to the city's district attorney that Jones be charged with one count of felony coercion and also a midsdemeanor count of battery and a misdemeanor count of threat to life.

The charges stem from a melee that began inside the Minxx Gentlemen's Club and escalated to a triple shooting on Feb. 19. One man was left paralyzed.

"It took approximately five weeks to investigate this and it's not something we took lightly," Las Vegas Metro police lieutenant George Castro said at a Monday press conference. "We had to look at a lot of video and it came from five sources.

"You can only imagine what it was like that night, very violent, very chaotic, so some of the information we had was very sketchy."

Castro said that two full-time detectives and five part-time officers put in more than 500 hours investigating the incident.

Jones' bodyguard will also be charged with one count of felony coercion, as will a female friend of Jones. The club's owners have alleged that Jones was involved in the brawl that led to the gunfire and that he believes Jones knows the shooter.

A police report states that Jones brought a trash bag of money into the club to distribute to dancers and that the money sparked a struggle. The amount of cash -- reportedly in dollar bills -- has been disputed by the parties.

Castro said witness accounts indicate that Jones at one point prevented a security officer from stopping the altercation, but Jones was reportedly not armed.

"Did he have a weapon, No," Castro said. "Was he an inciter, Yes."

The investigation of the melee in the bar has progressed further than the one into the subsequent shooting.

"This is small steps we are taking," Castro said. "We're being patient."

Good. And I hope he is out of the NFL forever. He's a punk who needs to be the example of what not to be for the future players coming into this league.

Jerry would not bring him to Dallas. I think JJ has learned his lesson on bringing in 'thugs' and will continue to find players who are solid citizens off the field like Terence Newman and Roy Williams.

Good Lawyer+plus sketchy testimony = reasonable doubt

Im sorry but I hope that he sets himself on a better path and comes back into the league a better man than he is today.

Sounds like some of you feel that because he's such a good player that somehow or other, with proper apologies, all can be forgiven and he can come back to play--hopefully for our Cowboys.

These charges couldn't have come at a worse time for Pacman--when Goodell (sp?) is in the process of establishing a new policy re players involvement in activities which hurt the NFL image.

Some have talked about he possibly being signed for a year but guys who fail drug testing for 3 times get a year's suspension. Pacman and 1-2 other players have been involved in serious incidents/arrests up to 10. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more then 1 year suspension and is forced to pay his SB money back to the Titans. After all, in addition to this and other incidents there is couple lines in his contract which specifically require him to tell the team of any arrests and he failed to report two of them to the Titans.

Depends on the tapes. That will go a long way, I'm sure.

Of course, there is always the following maxim:

If you are a celebrity, you are guilty until proven innocent.

If you were proved innocent, it is because you were a celebrity.

If convicted, the NFL should come down hard. Very hard. This off the field crap needs to end.

All that money in a trash bag. At a strip joint.
Somehow I get the feeling that Pacman is of "new money."
