Through week two:
Run Offense vs. Miami

His false start penalties drive us all nuts, but Flozell Adams’ value to the running game is unquestioned. That 6.0 average is rock solid, coming on steady runs of 5,6 and 7 yards to his side. Marc Colombo has similar numbers but they’re skewed by Marion Barber’s 40 yard TD run late last week; Colombo’s YPA was less than half its current number before that play. Credit Oliver Hoyte and the tight ends, who are blocking like earth movers so far this year.
Barber may have taken the starting role, but Julius Jones will still play a big role in the running game. He’s the faster runner, but look how few outside running attempts he’s had this year. Larry asked the question in the threads that bears repeating — when is Dallas going to run more pitches, sweeps and stretch plays for him? Eleven of his thirteen runs against Miami were up the gut and none of his runs were outside the tackles. That’s not playing to his strengths.

The T.O. - Romo connection is getting better, though T.O. had two drops against Miami, something we had not seen through the preseason.
Two points — Sam Hurd needs a bigger sample size, but he looks like he’ll be fine as the 3rd WR until Terry Glenn gets back, if he gets back.
Next, Dallas should throw to Julius Jones more. He had the most impressive Cowboys run against Miami, catching a four yard Romo pass and then making three men miss with two hip twisting cuts. He’s deadly in open space, yet the Cowboys never seem to throw him the ball more than once a game. He could improve his confidence and help the offense with a few more receptions.

There’s a drop off from last week, but a sustained 10.0 YPA will still get Romo a return ticket to the Pro Bowl.

He’s a left-handed kind of guy. Look how much better Tony Romo has passed to his left so far. He was a disappointing 0-6 throwing short to his right against the Dolphins. Many of those passes were made under duress and two were dropped, but we should also credit Miami, who was ready for every one of the three bootleg passes Dallas called Sunday. They had a target painted on Jason Witten and were also game planning to keep Romo from rolling outside the pocket, where he was deadly last year.
