he can always re-enter the draft and maybe fall past 22 next time around.

So losing that time will hurt them. He should put some butts in the seats. If he holds out they may have to start another QB early on. I wonder how badly Cleveland wants to start this guy on opening day???
On the other hand he's slotted at 21. Is he likely to get that much more money by holding out?
I guess he'll have to decide if the money is worth the negative image and the time loss towards his own maturation.

Agents are expected to do everything possible to get their clients every penny they can (and of course increase the agents earnings as well). Nothing new here- just pointing out that the Browns GM screwed up by flapping his gums.

I don’t know if there’s a textbook for wannabe GMs, but if there is, it should include this line:
do not ever, ever say “we had player X rated at the top of our board” when you get him at a much lower draft slot.
Browns GM Phil Savage may learn this lesson the hard way; word from Brownsland is that prized QB Brady Quinn may hold out, based on Savage’s claim that he rated Quinn as a top five player. Quinn was drafted 22nd overall, in the deal with Dallas, and still wants to be paid like a top fiver.
You can’t blame him. You’re never guaranteed a second contract in the rough-and-tumble NFL world. You have to make the most of the deal in front of you.
Savage should have consulted Jerry Jones when the two were working out the deal that put Quinn in Cleveland. In 1990, Jones crowed that Emmitt Smith was a top five player on Dallas’ board when the Cowboys landed him at pick 17. Armed with this information, Smith’s agent Pat Dye Jr. played hardball and held Smith out of camp.

The same story says the Browns might start third year QB Derek Anderson if the season started today. All three Browns QBs are apparently having trouble learning new OC Rob Chudzinski’s offense, and Anderson has the firmest grasp of it so far.
This makes me go hmmm. Chudzinski was hired off San Diego’s staff. Then Chargers OC and current Dolphins Kahuna Cam Cameron ran the same system that Norv Turner runs, which has a reputation for being one of the easier playbooks to learn. (Jason Garrett will use much of the same passing playbook in Dallas.)
You wonder what system Chudzinski is working if his QBs continue to struggle?
Regardless, it’s all good from Dallas’ perspective.

Does this mean Spencer will ask for 22nd money ?
He says Cleveland should have consulted Dallas before staying he was a top 5 on their board, but Jerry did the same thing, to a certain extent, with Spencer.
id love for that to happenCrazyCowboy;1531131 said:Can you say 0-16 season for the brownies.
