NFL | Cash and Commitment Needed to Sign Verba - from www.KFFL.com
Fri, 10 Jun 2005 05:09:00 -0700

Mary Kay Cabot, of the Plain Dealer, reports free agent OT Ross Verba said he plans to start making visits to teams next week. He said his agent, Tom Condon, told him that 10 teams have already called to express interest. He wouldn't reveal which ones, but did name a few he'd like to play for. "I'm interested mostly in the teams that need tackles," he said. "I'd like to play for San Diego, Houston, Buffalo, Chicago, Kansas City, San Francisco, someone like that." Verba said he will tell teams not to all unless they will be offering a big, multiyear contract. When asked how big, Verba replied, "$35 million." "If I don't get what I want, I'll walk away from the game and hold my head up high."

get ready to walk away then, fool

I doubt even idiot supreme Snyder would give you 35 mils

Let's see...he named AFC and NFC teams with both winning and losing records...hmmm

Translation: "I want to play for any team that will pay me"

That type of contract isn't to bad figure around 7yrs a 10-12 mil signing bonus then have another 7-10 tied to roster bonuses all you have left is around 13mil in salary and for a tackel and by all reports Verba is a very good Tackle this contract is doable IMO

One problem is that the SB can only be prorated over the next 5 years at this point but with a 10-12 mil SB that should not be a problem. Some team will give him a backloaded contract with roster and reporting bonsuses so he can save face by saying he got the $35 mil contract but they can still ditch him without ruining their cap.

Still i dont beleive that he will walk away unless he gets 35 mil, 20 mil is better than 0 dollars. Let him walk and realize no other job he gets will even pay him 1 mil a year.

If you are without a legit LT, you've got to consider paying this man. LT protects the QB and the QB is the money man, not to mention most important position on the field.

Verba is not very good, but he is old and missed all of the yr before last with an injury...he looked like a pushover most of last yr...

he isnt worth half the kind of contract you just threw out there
