Pros: The defense looked pretty good overall. The defensive line was active and got a pretty good upfield push. Better than we have had overall in several years. The coners and safeties were active in pass protection and did a pretty good job overall of covering. The linebackers played great as well.
I think the biggest negative that I saw on defense was there were times that our guys were in position to make a play in the open field, but allowed the runner?QB to freeze them with a delay move and slid past them. The good news is that as they get used to playing with each other and some coaching, the defensive player will make the runner/QB commit and rely on his team mates to make the play if they can't.
Offensively, Romo was running for his life early. The line was the weak link, but played better as the game went on (at least to some degree) which is probably partially a function of a patch work line, the reduced talent employed by the opposing defense as the game wore on, and the line settling down a little bit as the game went along.
The interior of the line is still the weakest spot on the team, but part of it was blown assignments as opposed to being overpowered.
Orton looked good. We have the best backup in the NFL. McGee sucked eggs yet again. I can't see him making the final 53 man roster.
Hanna did a great job tonight. He solidified his spot on the team. The Penn St. tight end was solid, but very unspectactular. I thought he should have been called for at least one false start that wasn't called.
The running game was largely ineffective. It is the first preseason game, but the team did a decent job with the exception of the interior OL.
We did a much better job on special teams covering punts.
Dez looked great.
