Verdict's Random Thoughts on our draft class + free agency/trades

I'm not upset at all with the Booker pick, though I wish we could have moved back and landed another asset, as most boards had him in the 20s. Still, if the guy you love is there you grab him, and we do have a great history with drafting OL.
I like Eze and Revel as players too, though Revel is a little concerning with our history of guys with knee injuries. Still at 76, I saw him in the 30s on most boards.
I was hoping with the depth at DT and RB that we'd get those needs addressed. I did notice both Ohio St. guys were gone before we picked in round 2, and I had hoped for one of them. I was hoping we'd get Deone Walker, who went in R4.
I'm disappointed we didn't get better at WR, DT and RB, though not unhappy with our Day 1 and Day 2 picks at all. Day 3 I'm uncertain about. I'm just not confident on our FO as it relates to FA. We are weak at WR, DT and RB IMO.
Not having a 4th was a huge mistake. All those great plays Trey Lance made for us last season, LOL, well done Jerry.
We could have easily bested the Bills offer to move up for Walker had we had our 4th.
Keenan Allen would make me feel better at WR, though I'm not sure I see a RB or DT that helps much. Hopefully we will see some guys released after the draft that can address our deficiencies.
We just had so many holes in the roster. We addressed some, but others remain.

Dowdle with Zeke compared to what we have now, will have to take the latter on this one.
Not sure why some fans are high on Dowdle. He was ok. Not someone who can do it by himself like we asked him to because come on, Zeke didn't help him at all. Devonte is not as good a runner as Dowdle because he is not the same type RB as Dowdle, he is more a short yardage runs and receiving game type. Don't think he could be a primary RB, but could be a great complimentary. Blue potentially could be the speedster back who can go the distance, break off those long runs at times as well as being a good ball catcher out of the backfield as well as be a decent blocker in the passing game.
This year, unless they trade for A Guy, it will be run by committee approach with multiple RB rotation sets based on game situations and schemes.
Yet saying all that, I wouldn't be surprised if they brought in further guys at RB to truly find what they need

Well, I hear you on moving back to get assets and him, but no one but Houston called. Don't know what Houston offered, but apparently it was low ball offer. He wouldn't of made it to 44 so...
As far as they addressed some but others remain goes, if we are honest with ourselves we have to know that this will take a few years to get the guys we need to build this team up. Trust me, I was one of the guys hamming it up to get a RB and wr, but they did it smart. Got to start with trenches, and they did that. It was a good draft and I am surprised at how well they did.

I disagree with you on this point. Williams and Sanders are this year's Elliott and Cook. The only thing that redeemed us last year was Dowdle, and we don't know if we have even a Dowdle on this roster. The late-round RBs might can do it but there's a big if attached to that.

Right now, I'd say the RB room is worse for that reason. I hope all the new additions prove that wrong, but I can't get too excited about two FA backs who averaged in the mid-3s last year and two-late round backs, when the hit percentage in the late rounds is around 20 percent.
C'mon, a little positivity please. Williams had a knee injury and is only 25. Sanders is only 27 and has been used sparingly. Blue is a home run hitter as a change of pace, and Mafah is an early downs pounder. It is a better room than a year ago.

Blue is going to have to get better in pass protection. If he can do that then they can use him similar to the way the Bears use Jahmyr Gibbs. If not he’s not going to be any more effective than Deuce because they can’t get him on the field!

They've got to give me a reason to be positive. We have two free agents that couldn't even average 4 yards per carry the last two years (exactly like Elliott and Cook) and we've got a fifth- and seventh-round pick who we don't know will be any better than the other fifth (Vaughn) and seventh (Scarbrough) that we took at the position. (Actually, Mike Weber was the most recent RB we've taken in the seventh, but same thing.)

I think you are being grass is greener here. Dowdle was a better pro back right now last year than anyone we've added. I hope for the best, but I don't see reason to expect it.

The value that we placed on these backs says that we shouldn't.

I can’t express how apathetic I was about the Cowboys after last season’s catastrophe and wasting all that cap on Dak. I have been a fan for 35 plus years and a season ticket holder for about 20 straight years. I can’t tell you how down I was about this team.

I would like to think that I’m not a happy fan nor a guy who is eternally negative about the team. I try to call it like I see it.

As I said in another thread, the Shotty hire is growing on me and this draft class caused me to be even more optimistic about the direction of this team.

I don’t know how ANYONE can look at our first round pick and not understand why he should be an anchor for this team for a long time. I get the complaints about positional value but his intangibles are VERY encouraging. I love this pick. It seems like we got great value for picks 1.2,and 3. This is the first time in forever that I believe that the Cowboys actually stuck to their board.

The Cowboys also resisted chasing their tail to add a receiver that wasn’t any better than players already on the roster.

Am I excited about RB? No. But it’s not nearly as bad as last year’s RB room was.

I don’t believe that Jerry and Co are done with this class. I think that the team will be open to adding a WR and/or a RB if necessary.

Side note: I LOVE THAT WE ARE BUILDING THE TRENCHES! But it’s interesting just HOW MANY OL we have added to the mix. It seems like we have far too many to make the team. Im
wondering what the plan is with that.

I think that the interior of the OL has been solidified. The question is how iffy is the team on the OL situation? I could see a scenario where Guyton or Steele is a trade or cut before the season starts. I think Shotty is going to create competition like Parcells did and be willing to move on from non performers.

As Booker was speaking I couldn’t help but think how much of an influence could a guy like Booker have on a player like Parsons. He seems like a first class young man. A respectful leader. I could see him going to Parsons and telling him, dude you are a great players but if you focused you could become GREAT. Maybe humble Parsons a little bit.

I love the culture change. I think the results will eventually show up on the field. I believe in this process. I don’t think it’s just lip service.
Parsons ain't listening to Booker

I think the “big trade” they have been talking about might be some of our Guards for a WR. We have a lot of those so it makes sense

If you rewind to this time last year we passed on drafting an RB and had Zeke and Rico. I personally felt worse about RB going into last season then this season. Obviously the season ended differently with Rico emerging, but he wasn't a guy that opened up the game. He was tough between the tackles and surprised for sure but I feel we have more upside in the room with more options over last year. Whether if they have a 1k on the roster remains in question.

Guyton isn't going anywhere except to LT to start.
Unfortunately he doesn't look like a LT and needs to move to the RT spot but Jerry has invested too much in Steele for him to let him go. Je doesn't like paying for a player & position twice. So Steele at best is here this year and we let him walk or worst case Jerry keeps him until end of his contract

Looking at our current roster, our recent draft and udfa signings, I could see one of our safetys being used as trade bait as well.

I keep reading about how Booker is going to be an anchor for this team for a long time. But why is that so? Because he was picked 12th in the first round? He could be great, or he could be Tyler Guyton 2.0. We hope he is the next Zack Martin, but he could be nothing. We need to see him line u p against Vita Vea, and Jalen Carter. Then we will know what we have.

who is going to trade for bodies at position where you dont need to excel?

someone else gave them an opinion, they ran with it.

no one should have been excited over at guard at 12. not even a zach martin. this team needs way more, and i odnt mean by trading down.
