Very telling stat

Since 2007, we are 26-4 when we have rushed for 100 yards or more where as we are 7-14 when we haven't...

As I said in another post, this is almost a perfect reason why Felix Jones should get the start

in 2009 Felix had 116 carries.

in our wins felix had 90 carries, in our losses? 26 carries...

his 6.1 yards per carry definitely put us over against houston... on SEVEN carries...

Be careful saying anything positive about Felix around here. The Choice nuthuggers are going to come out of the woodwork proclaiming him the best back who should get all the carries.....

But I do agree. The threat of the big play from Felix will force defenses to keep one of the safeties near to box. Opens the passing lanes and allows us more big plays in the passing game.

and you ignore when Felix has 7 carries for 7 yards.

Tashard is a complete back.

I don't blame felix at all for going 7 for 7... that happens when you're not a featured back.

same reason why choice is 3 yards for his last 3 carries, and only has 21 yards on the year.

We have any 86% rate of winning when we run over 100 yards compared to a 33% chance of winning when we run less than 100 yards.

For the 1,802,473rd time.

When you rush more you win.

Part of this is because you run the ball to eat the clock when you're in the lead.

And like I said in the other thread, that stat only says we should run the ball more, not who should run the ball.

So far this year, Barber has rushed for 11 first downs and one touchdown. Felix has rushed for 7 first downs, and zero touchdowns.

jswalker ignores attempts...

and while you run the ball more when you have the lead, getting away from your game plan usually causes you to lose...

everyone always says stick with the run, fact is if our teams identity was running behind felix, it would open up avenues for our team that don't exist right now.

I attribute Felix's 7 for 7 more to poor blocking more than anything. It's hard to run effectively when you are consistently getting hit in the backfield.

Personally, I think all the debate about which running back to start is overblown. How often the Cowboys run the ball is dictated by how effectively they are running the ball. And the main factor in how effective they are in running the ball is how well the offensive line is run blocking. If we want to get more 100+ games, then the OL needs to be more consistent in it's run blocking.

And you ignore common sense too. This is just you using a team stat to say that one player should start over another.

To act like Barber sucks and Felix is the only good back is ridiculous. Out of Barber's 36 carries, 30 were for positive yards. 6 carries were for zero or negative yards. Out of Felix's 22 carries, 18 went for positive yards, 4 were for zero or negative yards. That's 83% positive for Barber, 82% positive for Felix. So it isn't like we are hurting ourselves with Barber being the "starter".

We have a perfect record of wins when we run the kneel down more than once in the fourth quarter of a game.

Obviously, this is the key to our success more than rushing attempts when we are ahead.

I think it was Brandon Worley on BTB.com that pointed out our run pass ratio was almost exactly the same in the Texans game as it was against Chicago and Washington until our last series where we went run heavy to eat the clock.

You run a lot when you have a lead.

Exactly. Since 2007, when....

Leading big: 323 carries
Leading close: 255 carries
Tied: 307 carries
Trailing close: 307 carries
Trailing big: 92 carries

(This is totaled from major contributors, Barber, Felix, Choice, and Julius.)

you guys are really trying to downplay this...

and i think jswalker actually ruins his argument

other than trailing big (which i doubt has been the case often, we generally have lost most games in the last couple years by 7 points or less), we basically run the ball the exact same amount regardless of the score. If anything leading close brings the average down...

Here's a telling stat....

Since 2007:

When we throw for 275 or more yards, we are 22-5.
When we throw for 274 or less yards, we are 11-10.

I think we need to throw more.

;)

Those rushing attempts proved what another poster said. When we are up, we run more. That doesn't weaken an argument. That just proves the fact. And I'm sure that most of those games we were up big in was because we the passing offense. Not just the rushing offense.

Face it folks, we aren't the Jets or the Dolphins. We aren't a run first team.

Do you win a game because you run the ball more or do you run the ball more because you're winning the game?

a better look at the stats would be what is done in the first 3 quarters. Because just about everyone tries to run the ball in the fourth when they have a lead.

Please explain what makes Choice a complete back. Also what makes Felix a less than complete back? Do you know Choice only broke 1 tackle all of last year?

From another thread....Read this and then explain away Felix's superiority.

One good game when the others were injured and no one in the NFL
knew who he was.:D We are keeping him as our secret weapon for when we
get to the SB
